First Stop

Don't be a moronic noob. Come here first. Then go be a moron.

Rules

  1. There are no rules.
  2. Please wait until we have decided the rules.

New Friends!

So I have been watching Rooster Teeth for years specifically Achievement Hunter, Rooster Teeth and a Funhaus. I love hearing the stories of how Barb and Gav were friends on the site before eventually working together and I dunno I guess I feel like I'm missing out by not trying to make friends and getting involved in the community. So, here's me just some guy from Scotland trying to make friends who actually like the same things as me (seeing as my friends now don't like RT content)

Read Before You Flag

Hi All, friendly neighborhood site admin here. I wanted to take a minute to talk to you about the wonderful world of flagging posts. If you need clarification on if something should be flagged or not, don't hesitate to @ or PM myself or any other site admin. What is Flagging? Flagging is what we call clicking the little grey flag at the bottom right of a post. Clicking that button will send a copy of the post to a site admin for them to see and act on. What Should I Flag? 1) Comments that break the ToU. You can read it here. Generally, Section 4 is what defines the kind of user generated posts we will take action against. 2) A comment that promotes racism, hatred or physical harm of any kind against any group or individual. It's in the ToU, but bears repeating. But keep in mind reasonable intent. If we banned every comment that offended anyone, there would be no meaningful dialogue on the site. That said, go ahead and flag the post if you believe it does meet this criteria. There won't be any repercussions if we don't agree, and feel free to message us if it stays up more than a day and you feel strongly that it shouldn't. 3) Spam. Posts advertising locksmithing, illegal downloads, garage door repair, cremation (yep, seen some of those), plumbing services, making money from home, giant blocks of repeated Korean text, and anything else that looks obviously spam. We'll take care of it. 4) Trolling. Keep in mind that someone saying something stupid every once in a while or making the occasional annoying post is not trolling, provided they do generally contribute. However, if they make it a pattern, flag several of the offending posts at the same time, and ping myself or another admin with the details. 5) Harassment. This is hard to define, but generally falls under the umbrella of repeated, unwanted messages, tags, journal comments, or forum posts. Two caveats: First, the victim must have made it clear in the past that the harasser's behavior is unwelcome. Second, harassment must be a repeated set of behaviors. A single off color or uncomfortable remark does not constitute harassment. Multiple, or continuing comments after being asked to stop does. 6) Any post that breaks the site. Whether by accident or malice, there have been posts in the past that cause major formatting problems on the site. Flag them  and we'll do our best to get them sorted out. 7) Posts about unauthorized locations hosting RT content. The long and short of it is that RT is a business. They don't look kindly on people posting instructions on how to steal revenue from them. That said, RT is generally aware of where and when illegal copies of its work are posted to sharing sites. While the sentiment is appreciated, we don't need you to hunt them down for us. What Should I NOT Flag? 1) Posts disagreeing with you. Don't like who a person is voting for? Does someone's fan fiction clash with yours? Are they maintaining that their theory is right despite you posting half a dozen sources saying they're wrong? That's nice, but it's not going to result in any action, so don't flag it. 2) Spoilers. Except in very certain circumstances, we're not going to delete posts with spoilers. Especially if they're comments on the video that they spoil. Protip: you shouldn't read those comments until after you watch the video. Note, the exception is if someone is deliberately trying to spoil something, in which case go ahead and flag it. 3) Posts criticizing RT or Their Content. They're big boys and girls. They don't care about posts saying "This video is trash" or "I hate X". So please, don't flag them 4) Something you want RT to see. Your fan fiction/script/art project might be next big thing. We admins certainly think so. And then we're going to ignore that flag and move on. Try pinging the staff on Twitter or making a post on Reddit about it instead. 5) Complaints or suggestions about the site or shows. If you have a problem with a bug, the site layout, show scheduling, or anything else along those lines, please don't write a post and flag it. Staff or someone with the power to change things won't see it. Just us admins. You can report bugs here.

Rules 2.0

After quite some time and numerous discussions, we've decided to streamline the existing rules into the following new rules (aka Rule 2.0). If you're an existing user, take a minute to read over them. If you're a new user, it's very important that you read these rules. The rules, as always, are subject to change at any time. Please watch this thread as new rules and revisions will be made as new posts so that you will be alerted to the change. RoosterTeeth.com Forum/Site Rules 2.0 1. Violations of the Terms of Use are cause for immediate banning. 2. Use some common sense: Post things in the right forum/thread, stay on topic, don't post pointless crap, don't be a jerk/troll/dick to people, don't harass/flame other members, don't spam, and generally behave. 3. Similarly, if you see someone trolling or being a jerk or anything else mentioned in rule number 2, DO NOT respond in kind; dealing with people breaking the rules is our job as mods and admins, not your job, so let us know about it and let us deal with it. 4. Use proper spelling and grammar. 5. Listen to the forum moderators, site admins, and site staff. 6. Note any rules specific to individual forums and follow them. 7. Do not post the same text/images in every post to try to be like a signature. 8. Making use of any malicious code or other exploit to take advantage of the systems on this site or cheat the systems on this site is grounds for an immediate ban without warning. 9. DO NOT copy/upload/share any sponsor only content to other sites/servers/torrents/whatever. This is cause for immediate banning. 10. Don't make any stupid claim that the First Amendment protects your right to post here. It doesn't. 11. The following topics/behaviors are off limits in all parts of this site, unless created by a mod/admin/staff member: 1. Threads to say, "hi", or that you love us. 2. Threads that beg for the weekly vid to come out early. 3. Offering your bandwidth for hosting episodes. We're big boys. We can handle it. 4. Versus threads, Favorites threads, etc. 5. Duplicate/repetitive topics. USE THE SEARCH FEATURE. 6. Anything to impersonate others intentionally (pictures, etc.), in guise of comment "experimentation". This does not create a trusting community 7. Anything NSFW not posted in an appropriate place or without appropriate warning. 8. Piracy, mod chipping, theft or any other illegal activity. 9. Any kind of race to _____ threads, any kind of chain letters, or tag. 10. If it sounds like a bad idea, don't post it. Enforcement of all rules is at moderator/admin discretion. We've left these rules fairly open ended to give you a fair amount of freedom, but don't think anyone will hesitate to act even if a rule isn't spelled out word for word. Mods and Admins have a variety of punishments available at their disposal. At their discretion, Mods and Admins may: 1. Ban you from a thread or forum. 2. Remove or censor any inappropriate material you put on the site, including in posts and comments. 3. Reduce your karma. 4. Ban you from the site temporarily or permanently. Again, these punishments are at the discretion of the mods/admins/staff.

Adopt a Newbie v2

When the new forums were first rolled out, someone (mojo, I believe) started a thread that allowed newer users to get in touch with the older users of the site and seek a bit of guidance towards becoming a well-established member of this community. I searched a good long while for the original thread and couldn't find it, so I'm reposting it. If it was helpful three years ago, then it's probably bordering on absolutely necessary these days. The idea is simple. Some of us have been around here for a very long time. Others have joined recently, maybe even today. We older users know the ropes. We understand what's expected from a good user. We know the thread creation guidelines like the back of our hands. We are (mostly) familiar with what'll get you banned and what'll get you kudos. In short, if you're new and have a real interest in becoming a contributor to this community, we can help you. The guidelines for becoming an RT Mentor (as I'll call the older members participating in this program) are as follows: A Mentor should ideally have around two years' experience using this site. He should be capable of answering any of the usual battery of questions usually asked by newcomers. Understanding of the Sponsorship system, the karma system and its rules, and the guidelines for thread creation and posting are all examples of things that a Mentor should possess. His spelling and grammar must not be atrocious. A misspelled word here and there is one thing, but there are two reasons why a Mentor should be concerned with the way he writes. One, it allows him to communicate effectively and efficiently with others, and two, it sets a good example for newcomers. Nothing is more irritating than having to spend time trying to decipher the shorthand and Internet jargon 1337_n00b_514y3|2 uses when he posts. To maximize the quality of the time invested in his adoptee, a Mentor should adopt no more than one or two newcomers. Trying to help fifty people at once is noble, but not very effective. Of course, there won't be any sort of screening process here. But if these things don't apply to you, then I ask that you consider not participating. Likewise, there are a few things to be asked of the Adoptees. There will be people spending time with you that could just as easily be spent elsewhere, so please try to keep the following things in mind: Be at least 16 years old. If you're under the age of 16, you're not supposed to be here, as stated in the Terms of Use you agreed to when you signed up. Breaking a rule before you even post anything isn't a good way to start. Keep a good attitude. If you don't, then you're going through this whole process for nothing. Don't be offended if your Mentor tells you to stop doing something or to shape up in some area. He knows what he's talking about. Ask, ask, ask! Your Mentor is there to answer your questions, so don't be afraid to ask him. Are you thinking about posting a Linkin Park thread in the Gaming forum? Check with your Mentor first and see if it's such a good idea (it's not). Confused about why your thread was locked? Ask your Mentor instead of creating another thread to complain about it. He's taken the time to help you. Let him help. Listen, listen, listen! Your Mentor has been around this place for a good long time. He knows what's going on, and if he tells you that you to do something differently, he's probably right. Use good grammar and spelling. This is one of the most important parts of being a successful user of this site. People are much more likely to respond favorably to someone who seems able to voice an intelligent thought. This is your biggest weapon when posting. The latest version of Firefox has a built-in spellchecker. If you're not a good speller, then I'd suggest looking into this. It will save you a lot of grief. Contribute! You're here to be a part of this community, so be one! A good poster will post something relevant and interesting in a topic. A bad poster will post things nobody wants to read, and gain a bad reputation very quickly. Keep your reputation sparkling, and see how much more fulfilling your RT experience becomes. Now, if you're still interested in becoming a Mentor or an Adoptee, just say so. Post in this thread and say "I'll be a Mentor" or "I need some help." Ideally you'll be able to find someone to mentor/be mentored by with little problem. If you're having trouble finding someone to adopt you, PM me and I'll try to hook you up with someone who can help you. Additionally, adopted users shouldn't stay adopted forever. There are lots of people here who will need help. The whole idea behind this is that once your adoptee is ready to become a contributive member of the community, you take the training wheels off and let him ride. Once your adoptee's cruising safely down the street, come back and find someone else to help. Now let's get to it! Current RT Mentors: You can pick one of these members at random or just post and someone will pick you. acidrain700 ad_713 alexthegreat ChurchesWife Count3d dragonbanez Dwarf_Ninjas Fhajad randomiser TECHSKATER IS COOL, TOO

Report Bad Threads or Groups

This thread is to make things easier on us users and the moderators. Instead of finding a moderator that is online to lock a shitty thread, post here and a moderator should lock the thread if it meets their discreation. Here are the rules for this thread RULES 1. Only post here to report a bad thread or group. 2. Provide link to the bad group or thread. Without a link, it just makes things more difficult for the Mods. Such posts will be deleted by a moderator 3. Do not come in here to complain or ask why your thread was locked or your group was frozen. Contact a Mod about it. Sometimes a mod will leave a post as to why the thread is lock in the thread. Rules may be edited/modified by a moderator at anytime. Again, please don't post in here if you are not reporting a bad thread. If you excessively flame someone in a thread reported for locking, you will get a temp ban. There's no need to decide what belongs and what doesn't belong, nor is there a call for you to say anything. I'm expanding this to include the reporting of questionable groups. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO TAKE GROUP VS. GROUP SHIT. Report only groups that are clearly not acceptable. Duplicate groups may also be reported here. Anything else will incur our wrath.

Why did my image(s) get deleted?

So you've discovered that one or more of your images is missing. Maybe you got a link to this thread, maybe you found it on your own. Either way, you're wondering what happened. Let's take a magical tour through the relevant portions of the terms of use, shall we? 5. Content Posted using the Service. a. RoosterTeeth.com may review and delete any content, messages, RoosterTeeth.com Messenger messages, photos or profiles (collectively, "Content") that in the sole judgment of RoosterTeeth.com violate this Agreement or the general spirit of RoosterTeeth.com. d. By using the Service you agree not to transmit content that: i. promotes racism, hatred or physical harm of any kind against any group or individual; ii. harasses or defames another person; iii. contains or promotes "junk mail" or "spam"; iv. involves commercial activities and/or sales without RoosterTeeth.com's prior written consent such as giveaways or pyramid schemes. v. contains or provides information about an illegal or unauthorized copy of copyrighted work; vi. displays pornographic material of any kind; vii. provides material that exploits people under the age of 18 in a sexual or violent manner; or viii. provides instructional information about illegal activities. [Emphasis added.]Chances are, you had something in your images that wasn't appropriate in a "NSFW" (Not Safe For Work) sense. Exactly what this entails depends on the person doing the judging, but nipples (on a woman) or genitals are auto-deletes. That doesn't mean that you're safe because the porn star you have as your avatar is wearing pasties and a g-string, though. Basic rule of thumb? If you wouldn't want your boss to walk by and see it on your computer screen, don't post it. (If you're too young to have a job, imagine yourself in that position.) Bottom line? The Images section of your profile was not designed as a porn stash. Keep it under your mattress, please and thanks.

NSFW Image reporting.

If you notice any NSFW (Not Safe For Work) images in a user's image gallery, you can report them here. We mainly delete any pictures that show nipples, genitals, asscracks or anything else that you wouldn't want to be caught looking at at work or school. If you find a picture that should be deleted, post a link to the image gallery and not the image itself. Only post in this thread if you are reporting an image/gallery. NO CHATTER. All posts not containing a link to offending images/galleries will be deleted. DiMono on Defining NSFW Visible nipples, genitals, bush or buttcrack. Pictures of a blatantly sexual nature (two girls kissing doesn't count, but a girl with her hand down her panties does). - Including obvious camel toe. Pictures that are too provocative. Pictures depicting graphic violence. Pictures of simply unreasonable content, such as a severed limb or a pile of poo. The following are not NSFW A girl in her underwear. Two girls kissing. Two guys kissing. Pictures of art, such as the statue David or that ceiling that one guy painted... you know the one. Body paint where you cannot see anything naughty. From now on, anyone who posts a comment not containing a link to a image/gallery, will be banned. - DiMono

MOD POINT/KARMA FAQ

Over recent times, I have seen constant Threads here about either asking "How does the Mod Point system work?" or "What's Karma" So I decided to make a thread to end all of this and hopefully solve everyones problems: WHAT IS KARMA? First of all is that Karma is a feature of the RVB website that is used to tell how active you are around the site. Or if you want a professional reading of what karma is, go to your homepage and put your arrow over "What's Karma" HOW DO I GET MY KARMA UP? It's simple really... -Post in journals, images, threads, etc (anything public-facing; not messages) -Also when more people watch you, you gain karma I'm sure you'll post responsibly too... CAN YOU LOSE KARMA? -If you are abusing the website and you get temp banned, a site admin may decrease your karma Okay I think I covered Karma...Now to Mod Points WHAT ARE MOD POINTS? Mod Points are used to tell someone what you think about their posts or images. You have an infinite number of these points, but you can only mod any particular post once, and there is a community stats entry dedicated to those posts that have garnered the most mod points from members of the community. Sponsors can also check to see who they received their points from by checking their "Mod History". Also on your homepage is a breakdown of how many mod points you've given and received. This tally updates every 12 hours. WHAT DO YOU GAIN FROM KARMA? At level+5, you are able to post Threads in the forums (Sponsors always have this ability), and you will gain access to a special forum at levels +20 and +50. There may be other forums similar to the +20 forum... IS THIS SYSTEM REALLY NECESSARY? In my opinion, the karma and mod point system just turns this whole website into a popularity dump which some people think it is...others think that it just ruins the fact that this is a Red Vs Blue Website... It's up to you about what you think about it. OTHER QUESTIONS Question: Someone keeps giving me negative mods for no reason...what do I do? A: Isn't that Obvious? Tell a Moderator( That is online ), they will handle it Question: Can I have mod points please? A: Okay this question is an example of someone about to get banned because this is Illegal to do...to ask for mods. You shall never do this because it's wrong and you should be able to obtain mods the fun way (woohoo!) Question: Why did you make this Thread?(I know someone will ask this) A: I made this to end all the useless Threads in the Website Forum asking about either Mod Points or Karma...This is just the basic matters of them to sort it all out and I hope to end all those threads by making this one... I hope this helps you out and if it didn't... don't worry about it...you'll get it someday(maybe in years) XD.. Post edited 10/28/13 12:02PM by Zack
