Official Rooster Teeth News

The group for all official news coming from Rooster Teeth. // [STAFF POSTS ONLY]

Rules

  1. There are no rules.
  2. Please wait until we have decided the rules.

Hey everyone! It’s been a bit since we’ve had a larger announcement about where we are in terms of Rooster Teeth’s shutdown. As announced in our previous announcement [https://roosterteeth.com/g/post/ebc5b2cd-bd04-4935-ae36-7bb5056e043f] we turned off new FIRST sign-ups and announced that the Rooster Teeth site and apps will be shutting down on May, 15, 2024. That’s next week. The end of this week will be the last day of employment for the majority of Rooster Teeth cast and crew. The work and shows that have been created and put together here over the last twenty-one years has been undeniably indescribable. We're so proud of what our team has accomplished, and are eager to see what these talented individuals do next. SPEAKING OF… Keep an eye out on social for news from the brands and people you love! There is so much more news to come, it just needs to be in a place where it’s shareable. (Take a look at 100% Eat and Face Jam! 👀) A small contingent of individuals will continue to work after this week. Turns out, there are a lot of pieces involved in shutting a company down and this crew will continue working on those final steps. This includes parts of the community and support team, who can still be reached at bit.ly/RT-Support. We are currently working towards moving site-specific content from the Rooster Teeth site to live on some of the YouTube channels as a living archive. While we can't make guarantees about specific shows, our hope is to make as much of the archive available as possible. More information to come! And finally, in terms of further communication and information from Rooster Teeth, even after May 15 when the site and apps shut down, that will still be coming from me. I may not be posting here on the website anymore, but I’ll still be posting on the r/roosterteeth subreddit until my last day! Thank you & much love, Chelsea

Hey everyone, Thank you for supporting us and sharing your thoughts and feelings with us over the last few weeks since we announced that Rooster Teeth will be closing. As mentioned, we have and will continue to share information with you as it is finalized. Today, a lot of information was distributed to FIRST patrons via email and YouTube paying subscribers through the community tab. Below covers what was communicated as well as the finalized date for when Rooster Teeth site and apps will shut down. All active FIRST patrons have been sent an email letting them know that their FIRST membership will no longer renew as of today, **April 15, 2024**. As we wind down our site and apps, this also includes the patron membership, FIRST. For any FIRST members who subscribed via RoosterTeeth.com and have unused days on their membership subscription after the date of shut down, you will be provided with a refund for the unused time. For any FIRST members who subscribed via Apple, Google Play or Roku, you have also been sent an email with further instructions on how to manage your subscription. For FIRST members who continue to have active memberships until the shut down, they will continue to receive and have access to their FIRST benefits, including previously released FIRST content, the benefit of no ads on videos, a star by their username, and access to unique text channels in the RT Discord server. Content will continue to be released on RoosterTeeth.com, but no new FIRST-only content will be released. For our YouTube members; Death Battle’s Champions, Funhaus’ Dog Pound, and Tales from the Stinky Dragon’s Lil’ Stinkers, a post has been shared on those individual YouTube Community Pages for those members, letting you know what are the next steps for those specific memberships. For our Inside Gaming Twitch subscribers, an email was sent to you from Twitch on March 20, 2024 stating that your subscription has been canceled and you will continue to have access to your perks and benefits until the date stated. For Ruby Rose Vtubing Twitch subscribers, no changes have been implemented at this time. Should anyone have any questions, please, first read the email or message that was intended for you, then if you still have questions, leave them in the comments below or reach out to Support: https://support.roosterteeth.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. **The Rooster Teeth website and apps will shut down on May 15, 2024** As more information regarding content, YouTube channels, social accounts and more are finalized, this will be shared with you all. Your support over the years, as community members, Sponsors, FIRST members, Kickstarter and IndieGoGo backers, viewers, Regulation Listeners, Comment Leavers, RTX attendees, stream lurkers, and so many others has been invaluable. The news of us ending FIRST and our site and apps is a hard one to share, as it makes this situation that much more real that Rooster Teeth will be closing soon - we know this is hard, for us and you all, but just know how grateful we are to have gotten to make silly stuff with you all for 21 years Everyone at Rooster Teeth continues to appreciate all of your support and grace as we continue to process the information, make decisions, and identify next steps. As that information is finalized, we will continue to share it with the audience and community. Thank you everyone, <3 Rooster Teeth

Hey everyone! We have some news regarding the release of Red vs. Blue: Restoration to share with you all. Please take a read of the full press-release here: https://www.austinchronicle.com/daily/screens/2024-03-28/red-vs-blues-final-story-gets-a-release-date/ The TL;DR of it is: We are so happy to finally announce that Red vs. Blue: Restoration will be released on **MAY 7 AS A FULL-LENGTH FILM**. It will be available to purchase from Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Vudu, and more on May 7 and available to rent digitally on May 21. Red vs. Blue is one of the longest-running web series in history, and that is very much in part to the support from you, our community. For over twenty years, Red vs. Blue has grown from weekly uploads that throttled the internet's bandwidth to being released as a feature film by Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment (WBDHE). That’s absolutely *WILD*. And it’s all thanks to your continued support of the show. We've been planning to release Red vs. Blue: Restoration as a separate full-length feature film in partnership with WBDHE for some time. This release will happen on May 7th, available to purchase from Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Vudu, and more and available to rent digitally on May 21. Thank you all once again for being a part of this incredible journey. Because of our community, we were able to continue making Red vs. Blue for 21 years, and cement the show as one of the greatest shows on the internet ever, of all time. Check out the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z73MQDs_jUI ❤️💙

Dear Rooster Teeth Community, Over the years at Rooster Teeth, we aim to be direct in sharing news as it happens. It is with an extremely heavy heart that this morning during our company All Hands meeting, a very important announcement was made. We are grateful for our audience, our fans, and our community’s support during this challenging time. As has been shared in other places, and sent to press and our internal staff, a copy of the memo sent from the General Manager of Rooster Teeth, Jordan Levin is shared with you all below. Please remember something as you begin to read the below message and DEFINITELY before you comment. We, all of us who work at Rooster Teeth, are processing this in real time just like you. Please be mindful that this is on the Rooster Teeth website, a place where staff read, interact, and engage with each other and with you. If you have questions, begin to leave them here - and thank you for your patience. Continued updates will be posted here, on RoosterTeeth.com, but you can also reach out and submit questions or feelings to our Support Page(https://support.roosterteeth.com/hc/en-us/requests/new) or comments on this post. We will be hosting a livestream tomorrow, March 7, 2024 on RoosterTeeth.com talking about this more. ---- Jordan's Memo Below ---- Dear Rooster Teeth, Since our founders created and uploaded their first video on the then-called World Wide Web in 2003, Rooster Teeth has been a source of creativity, laughter, and lasting innovation in the wildly volatile media industry. We’ve read the headlines about industry-wide layoffs and closures, and you’ve heard me give my perspective and updates on the rapidly changing state of media and entertainment during each of our monthly All Hands meetings. Since inheriting ownership and control of Rooster Teeth from AT&T following its acquisition of TimeWarner, Warner Bros. Discovery continued its investment in our company, content and community. Now however, it’s with a heavy heart I announce that Rooster Teeth is shutting down due to challenges facing digital media resulting from fundamental shifts in consumer behavior and monetization across platforms, advertising, and patronage. Please note, the Roost team is not currently impacted by this action as the Roost Podcast Network will continue operating and fulfilling its obligations while WBD evaluates outside interest in acquiring this growing asset. We have many questions to answer in the coming days and weeks, and the opportunity to work together to implement the best way to wind things down for us and our community. We’re working through what comes next in real time, and we will be as open, direct, and accessible as possible. Thank you all in advance for your patience and support of one another. Let's take a moment to celebrate our 21-year contribution to the zeitgeist, advancing creativity and outlasting many of our peers from the early days of online video and digital-first content. **** TO A CREATIVE LEGACY **** From a garage in Buda, TX, to global screens large and small, our teams of dreamers and doers have introduced and grown what made Rooster Teeth stand out: animation, comedy, and gaming. From new forms of animated comedy with machinima to countless viral memes, including the Immortal Snail (aka Snail Assassin), to a US-born animated series embraced by Japan as anime, and record-breaking (at the time) crowdfunded movies. You've accomplished so much and made dreams come true here. You've turned original IP into video games, comic books, and VTubers. You've directed short videos, mo-cap, and films. You've puppeteered, hosted podcasts, and have built a thriving community that spans the globe. Your creativity knows no bounds, and you'll continue contributing significantly to culture wherever your paths may take you. **** TO THOSE WHO COME FIRST **** Despite passing through many corporate owners, Rooster Teeth transcended a media business and was a dynamic movement that shaped the bond between communities, creators, and storytelling. Our founders didn’t have a blueprint for a media empire, but they got close to building one alongside a community that fueled its remarkable growth. In its earliest days, RT relied on community sponsorship through time, dollars, and unwavering passion. Volunteers evolved into staff, and the snowball effect grew, resulting in new relationships, marriages, births, and shared experiences that have changed lives. **** TO TRAILBLAZING CONTENT CREATION **** Our approach to content creation on emerging platforms paved the way for new media models. We inspired generations of creators across streaming, machinima, animation, let’s plays, merch drops, touring, podcasting, and more. Companies like GameStop, YouTube, Facebook, Spotify, and TikTok asked us to collaborate with them in their earliest days because we set a standard for what a digital-first brand could be. We boldly took our content beyond screens and into community-driven experiences. **** TO A CHANGING INDUSTRY **** Every story reaches its final pages. Rooster Teeth’s closure isn’t merely an end; it reflects broader business dynamics. Monetization shifts, platform algorithms, advertising challenges, and the ebb and flow of patronage—all these converging factors have led to many closures in the industry. While we learn about updates on programming day by day, we will share our plans for shows, franchises, partnerships, and merch soon and share those updates with teams internally and with the community on RoosterTeeth.com **** TO OUR FINAL SEASON **** Though not intentional, It’s only appropriate that our last season of “Red vs. Blue” coincides with us navigating this closure together. Our legacy is not just a collection of content but a history of pixels burned into our screens, minds, and hearts. Rooster Teeth has made an indelible mark on the media industry, and we should be so proud of the countless ways we pioneered a business connecting creators and content with a dedicated community. With respect, gratitude, and sincere appreciation, Jordan Levin
