Photos from RTX London 2017

So, did you get any great photos last year at RTX? I wanna see 'em! I'm really pleased with the assortment I got, especially of Off Topic and Geoff and Gus playing 1-2-Switch. You can check a small number out here on the site or check my bigger collection on my own site.

RTXL: Places to stuff your face!

Somewhat inspired by Burnie's talk of places to eat around Austin for RTX. What are the best places to eat in London during our off hours?

Guardians takeover London!

Hey! So I noticed in a lot of the other threads about people wanting to go out and explore London and thought it'd be cool to start a thread about it, so question I guess is would people be up for exploring the city either before or after RTX, and if there are any other London natives what would we recommend for people to see - either touristy for less so!!

Who’s going from Ireland?

Hey guys. Who’s going to RTX from Ireland? I’m about the same distance from Dublin and the 2 Belfast Airports, who is travelling from where? If any of us get the same flights we can travel together

Scotland travel?

Just curious if any fellow Scots are gonna be Guardians at the event and how you are planning travel? Torn between the cheapness of the good old Mega Bus and the speed of flying.. It's pretty cheap just now for either travel option..

Travelling to the ExCeL - A Guide

I just wanted to give a little heads up to non-locals that will be Guardian-ing and need to find their way to the ExCeL Centre each day. If you're close by, @Goldenballls has a good thread for those looking for walking buddies. If you're further afield, then you'll probably need to use London's wonderful transport network! While the map might look a little intimidating, its pretty straightforward once you get into the swing of it. The closest stations to the ExCeL Centre are the handily named "Custom House for ExCeL" and also "Prince Regent", both of which are on the DLR (the turquoise double-striped lines on the right-hand side of the map). The ExCeL Centre is pretty massive, so once we find out which end of the building RTX will be based, you can choose a station closer to where you need to be. Finding out how to get from your hotel / airbnb / hostel / tent to the ExCeL is pretty easy, just go to the Transport for London Journey Planner, enter the name of your hotel (or the name of your nearest Underground station if you know it) in the top box, and ExCeL in the bottom box, and it'll tell you the fastest route to get there. IMPORTANT: Don't buy paper tickets when using London transport! They are far more expensive than using the alternatives; Oyster Card or Contactless payments.  If you have a contactless enabled card, or have Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay on your phone, then you are good to go! Just tap your card / phone on the yellow readers at stations and you're done. (Some international cards might not work, more details here). If you don't have a contactless card / payment app, then you can get an Oyster card instead. The Oyster card is a smartcard that can be topped up at stations and hundreds of shops around London to enable travel. The cards cost £5 (but that can be refunded if you return the card at the end of your trip) and can be brought at stations, or buy one online before you travel and have it mailed to you. Find out more about Oyster here. Also note that if you're going to use London's buses, none except cash. You must use contactless or Oyster. Sorry if this is long winded, but hopefully this saves some people from spending way more on travel than they need to - unlike some poor souls from last year who fell into the trap of paper tickets! Feel free to ask any questions if this rambling mess makes no sense!

Guardian D&D [Newcomers Welcome]

Hey All! With RTXL on the way I figured It'd be a fun idea to set up a few D&D games to help us get to know one another and just have some fun until we all get to meet in September. So here's how we'll do things. Anyone interested in DMing a game will create a post here and then people can reply to that post using the handy template below to keep things easy. Templates: DM Template: Name: Timezone: (GMT, PST etc) Availability: (The days/times you are available to run the game) Platform: (the site or method your players will be required to use to play) Edition: (3rd edition, 5th edition etc) Other: (any other information you'd like to include in your post) Player Template: Name: Timezone: (GMT, BST, etc) First Time Playing: (Y/N) Availability: Ideally once you've found players or a DM you'll be able to contact them via PM to discuss character/Campaign details. I'll start off with my own game: Name: Lee Smith Timezone: BST Availability: Sunday/Tuesday Evenings Platform: Roll20/Discord Edition: 5th Edition Homebrew Other: Remember to have fun! I hope that through these games we can all grow closer as teams of Guardians and make some friends in time for RTXL. Here's hoping this is a critical success!

Guardian Shared Walking Route

Hey guys.  After trying to familiarise myself with a route I have never taken using Streetview. I have decided it may be a good idea to form a walking route that stops off at each hotel necessary en-route to the ExCel each day both to and from.  This means that not only can we get to know each other a little better on the walk, but ensures that anyone not familiar with the route can join us and not get lost. And of course, there's safety in numbers. As my hotel appears to be the furthest away, I have taken the liberty of creating a route that starts there. As mentioned above, I will head to any hotels confirmed to have people staying at.  Here is the map to the route: Walking Route Map Here is a list of all the Hotels en route: 1. Hotel Ibis Budget London City Airport 2. Travelodge London City Airport 3. DoubleTree Hilton Hotel 4. Holiday Inn Express London - ExCel 5. Travelodge London ExCel 6. Hampton by Hilton - London Docklands 7. Premier Inn London Docklands ExCel Finishing at the Excel All in all this should take roughly 30-40 minutes and is set to get shorter depending  on who is staying where. Closer to RTXL I will set up some chat groups on WhatsApp etc. to communicate with people who'd like to do this.  Thanks, Dan. *EDIT*  I've now set up a WhatsApp group available here - WhatsApp Feel free to join.

Introduce Yourself - let's get to know each other!

Hey guys, as per last year this was one of the forum topics I enjoyed most.  I'm Sam otherwise known as Phelps (or Toby in the RT community). I'm a 28 year old engineer/project manager working with fast boats. I was a RTXL 2017 guardian working with the store team, which was epic!  My sports include building and flying RC planes and racing Mini Motos and F1 sidecars.  What about yourselves??

Tips and Hints for being Guardians

Hey everyone, RTXL 2017 was my first time being a Guardian, and it was quite tough on the first two days getting to know how everything worked and the processes as well. So I though why not give my tips and advice I learnt last year so that it might help others, whether they are first time guardians, Londoning, or even seasoned veterans because we can always learn something new. Feel free to add some of your tips as well. So here's some of my tips: Wear comfy shoes - you will be on your feet for most of the time. Bring a clear water bottle - just to keep you hydrated and the Excel center had also requested that water bottles to be transparent last year due to security.  Bring a spare shirt and jacket - you will need to be out of your guardian shirt when you are not working, and because the excel is next to the river its generally cold in the morning and and night when we arrive or leave.  Bring a sharpie or two - because you never know when you need a sharpie for something. Battery packs and charging cables are a life saver - just so you can charge your phone or devices when you run out of power. Learning where the atm/ cash points are - I had quite a few ask where the nearest cash points or atms are last time. Theres a few inside the Excel (near the entrances normally) and others will be outside at Nisa and Tescos. Public transport - for first time travelling to the Excel can be tricky as the closest station is Custom House Excel on the DLR which is normally closed for some reason but their should be rail replacement buses for that, otherwise you can get off a stop earlier or later at Royal Victoria or Prince Regent, other ways taking the Emirates Air Line from North Greenwich O2 arena to the road in front of the Excel.  Hope this helps and see you all at RTXL

Joining the group should automatically make you "follow" the group for updates. Double check to be sure that you are following the group! Press the "+Follow button" to follow the group. If the button says "Unfollow", then YOU'RE FINE! Once you've made sure that you are following the group, comment on this thread with the following; 1. Your preferred name 2. Frequently Asked Questions

This FAQ is a work in progress, so stick with us while we update it!  A note for returning Guardians - We appreciate you'll have more knowledge than the newcomers, but please let @Arileya or I chase down the answers. Things might have changed since the last time you were Guardian, and we want to make sure the answers here are accurate. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1. How should we contact the Head Guardian team? Please direct ALL questions or comments to our Roosterteeth.com profiles (Boomer / Eloise), or to this group (the FAQ thread would be a great place for questions!). From time to time we'll email you directly, but only reply to those emails regarding the subject in the email...helps us keep 400 conversations in one place! 2. Now we're in the Guardian group, what's next? You'll be sorted into teams, and given your allocations. We will then make a News Post with links to the team-specific forums, so you can get to know your teammates before the big weekend! 3. Do I have to buy a ticket to RTX London? Guardians DO NOT have to buy a ticket to RTX London, however you are still responsible for travel, accommodation, and food/drink. Snacks will be provided in G-Spot throughout the weekend, but remember, you still need a proper meal! 4. What days am I needed for RTX London? Guardians will be needed on-site from first thing Thursday 13th to late Sunday 16th September. 5. Will I need a work visa to volunteer? I'm no lawyer or government professional, so I probably shouldn't be answering this! THIS HERE is likely your best resource (if you are coming from the US.). 6. Will I get any time off during the event? Absolutely, but you MUST remove your Guardian shirt while on break, so be sure to bring a spare / wear another one underneath. Keep your Lanyard on though...don't want to get kicked out of the event! Team Leads are responsible for allocating breaks, but they'll definitely give people time off to wander the floor!  If you have time to see a panel, we ask that you help the Panel Guardians during load in, and stand / take a seat around the sides while the panel is on. We don't want to look like we're jumping the queue, or have attendees miss out on their panel because we've taken up their space! 7. Will there be an event app?  Yes, but it's still early days. Give it some time and we'll post about it when it is released. 8. How do I update my profile picture on the RoosterTeeth.com site? Go to the top right of this page and hover your cursor over your username. On the dropdown menu, click 'My Profile'. Just above 'Post a Journal', click on the 'Images' tab. From here, you can either upload a new image, or select an existing image to make your profile picture. To add a new image, click 'Choose Files', and follow the instructions on-screen. Once it has uploaded your picture, click 'Save to Pictures'. It is then in your image gallery. To make a picture in your image gallery your profile picture, simply find the picture you want in your gallery, and click 'Make Profile Photo' - job done...now we know you're human! (Photo doesn't have to be you, just not the template blank faces!) WE'LL UPDATE THIS AS WE GO, SO POST YOUR QUESTIONS BELOW!
