Achievement Hunter

Suggestion: Host your Minecraft Server through Google Cloud

Hello hi

I've been watching achievement hunter since the time where Michael joined but I don't think I've ever made a post.. I'm not a content creator but have always wanted to be helpful to you guys in some way because of what you've given to myself for so many years! I'm a software engineer and full of anxiety so I'm sure as soon as I post this, I'll stare at it with regret but maybe you'll find this useful!

A few times when Sky Factory Let's Plays, your Minecraft server started to lag/failed, it seems like maybe the computer that is running it might be having some difficulties keeping up. I followed this tutorial about setting up Minecraft in Google Cloud and you I bet Adam or Ryan (no offense to anyone else) would love to know how to do something like this.

For context, Google Cloud (or Google Cloud Project - GCP) is a a full suite that allows you to setup virtual machines in the cloud, essentially computers that are maintained by Google. Virtual computers are nice because you can increase/decrease resources as you need.

If you would want to follow this tutorial, you would need to understand a few things:

- Using SSH to login to a virtual computer

- How to use vi/nano to edit files

This is a tutorial on how you can (from a brand new account in Google Cloud), you can setup a Minecraft Server:  Setting up a Minecraft server on Compute Engine

The above tutorial is for how to setup a basic server. In the above tutorial, you create a simple virtual machine with a small amount of RAM a one virtual CPU to host the server. I would suggest bumping up the machine that you select from the default to the next level (n1-standard-2).

Once that is done, you can download the server files from here: SkyFactory 4 Server Files

If you open the README file, you can follow the steps to running a server on LINUX.

After I wrote this all.... I realized it's probably way too complicated to follow if you're not familiar with some not so common computer knowledge :/ Maybe someone will find it useful!

If anything, thanks for all that you've done, you guys are phenomenal and are the reason I find humor through so much of life today.
