I have a lot of thoughts on the beta site - some good, some bad - but really, the most important question to me is this: will there ever be forums again? The groups feel very immediate - "what thought are you having right now?", with older messages getting scrolled off in ten posts. But I don't feel like I can really engage with anything like this; there's no room for ongoing conversations, no space to get to know who is speaking, or more specifically who might speak if there is a subject they feel comfortable with. I remember seeing one of the reasons for the new site was to make a space the community would want to log into daily again. I'm in favour of that. Twelve years after signing up I still want this as a place to come back to, the site whose members could often stand together in ways that emphasised the 'community' part of 'community site'. But right now I'm struggling to get a feel for who is making up the current community, and the basic structure of the groups isn't really helping.
