HOWDY ALL!
This is a new one for me as for the last 11 years you’ve seen @SailorTweek make these announcements as she shares all the good news about how YOU can apply to be a Guardian! We’ve gone through some changes here at RT and I’ve now stepped into a position where the Guardians are under my wings. Chris, Mary, and Dan, our three infallible Head Guardians, stepped down from their position after RTX Austin 2022 and have bequeathed to me a Google Drive, numerous files, and a rolodex of information nearly too big for my brain. So with that being said, GUESS WHAT?
🎉GUARDIAN APPLICATIONS FOR RTX AUSTIN 2023 ARE NOW OPEN! 🎉

So, here is more information that you probably should read through, especially if you’ve never been a Guardian.
🔴**WHAT ARE RTX GUARDIANS? WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS?**🔴
RTX Guardians represent this Community, this Company and the Convention. I know personally what this community can be and I want to see the best join the ranks of Guardians here. We’re looking for willingness to do tasks assigned to you, positive attitudes, customer service, patience and a genuine want to make this the best goddamn convention experience for everyone involved. We strive to make this show a safe place for all fans, community members - everyone there.
You must be comfortable in crowded spaces and crowds, dealing with emergencies with a cool head, and working with your team in a collaborative manner. We have a a variety of jobs that range from super exciting to oddly mundane… but all jobs and tasks are important and necessary to the run of a smooth as fuck RTX Austin so we expect everyone to put their full effort behind every task.
If you are accepted as a Guardian, you also must be willing to check the Guardian Discover server every week. Although Guardian news comes in random bursts, we require that you check the server frequently. It is our home base of all information. All official news and announcements will be made in that Discord server. We will NOT have a Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, Hive, Instagram, Tiktok or Reddit group or post for Guardian news and information.
🔴**DO I NEED EXPERIENCE AT OTHER CONVENTIONS?**🔴
No! It is all good; no worries if you lack other convention experience. We accept all skill levels. You have to start somewhere, right? Why not here? Instead, tell us if you’ve worked retail, theme parks, crowd management, summer camps, business events, child care, personal assistance, office management, scout leading, project management, extracurricular activities, Black Friday…. EVERYTHING that involves dealing with groups of people!
🔴**ARE GUARDIANS PAID?**🔴
Yes! Starting last year, Guardians are now paid individuals of RTX. Because of this, we are only accepting Guardians based in the United States or those eligible to work in the United States.
🔴**WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT BEING A GUARDIAN?**🔴
Being a Guardian is HARD WORK. I want you to say that sentence out loud and take it to heart because it’s very true. If you ask any past Guardian, you’ll more than likely hear that same sentiment. You will have lots of fun and hopefully end the weekend with a fantastic sense of pride and accomplishment from a show run well.
Please fill out the application thoroughly and seriously. A cute comment or joke here and there is fine, but total joke applications will be disregarded - this goes for both beginners and veterans of RTX. Fill out the form, please. Prove that you can follow directions. And TRIPLE check your information. Names, emails, and so much more are often misspelled. It’s hard to get in touch with you if your email address is wrong or you gave us an erroneous name.
Give us details about your experience! Drop names! Brag about yourself! If you worked a show, let us know all about it: name and year of the show, your duties, who you worked with (if you were a PA or worked a booth or panel). We need the details. I want to know as much about you as possible so if in the event you’re accepted, and I meet you in person for the first time, I know a lil’ something about you! Don’t be afraid to let me know what you are all about when you work a show. :)
🔴**FINAL NOTES**🔴
Every year, the phrase “I am very organized and always on time” is used in applications. That’s not an important trait for Guardian work. We all expect everyone to “be on time” but it’s not a skill that is worth being included. Tell us about how you can work in teams, you’re adaptable or flexible, or can face unique challenges that come up with convention work.
Next, there is not an option to apply to be a PA for RTX. PAs are chosen based on convention and personal assistant experience as well as the need from Rooster Teeth for PAs. To this, **team preferences are never guaranteed**.
And finally, all accepted Guardians will receive a Guardian badge that allows you into the show, an RTX Guardian crew shirt, unique job experience, pay, and a chance to be a part of something that I still refer to as our holiday event of the year. Guardians are responsible for their own hotel, travel, meals, and transportation. (**Note: If you purchase an RTX badge prior to receiving an acceptance/rejection email from your application and you are ACCEPTED, we will process a refund for your paid badge.)
If you have any questions about RTX Guardians, feel free to reach out to me - Chelsea Atkinson, director of Community and now official Guardian wrangler - via the comments here or on Discord (Chelsea#4469).
