General Discussion

I’m back?!?

Oh dang, look who the cat dragged in?

Let’s see, what have I been up to the last couple years.

Started a webcomic. It never really took off and I wasn’t happy with a lot of it so I’m reworking it. Moving characters from high school to college, tweaking backstories and lore, and trying to find a good style for it. I’ve got some work done but there’s a ton more to do.

Getting a divorce. That’s fun. Nothing bad happened, we just grew apart. We are cohabitating, both so she can finish school and to make the transition easier on the kids. But once she’s done, I’m moving out into a new house.

I have started dating again, which is weird. Been on a couple dates, got ghosted, got some matches that didn’t work out. It’s all new to me.

I’m sure there’s other stuff too but those are the big ones I can share for now. It nice to have this back, especially with most social media sites being trash now. I’ll post some stuff here soon, maybe script drafts or WIP. Maybe start a group here where we can read each other stuff. But we will see.

Good to be home.

Good evening all! With the Community site more or less live again, I'm going to try and start posting here more often. I don't know how often I will post but I'll try to share some art from time to time. Those who follow me on Twitter know that I've been hard at work on Vigil, my original comic available to view on Tapas that you can read here: https://tapas.io/series/Vigil-The-Series I'm in the middle of chapters right now and am working on building a larger backlog of pages. In the meantime, I'm whipping up some character sheets to provide some insight into the characters (and help me make sure they stay in character). Here is the first one for Celeste Body, one of the main characters. I'm always open to feedback so let me know what you think!

Hi all! I’m on the beta site now! Follow me! Here is some recent art I’ve done! Most of it is for my comic, Vigil! I’ve got a short, two part pilot test here. https://tapas.io/series/Vigil-Shadow-of-the-Woods/

Another Check In

Well, its late, I should be asleep.  But, instead, let's check the fuck in!

-Let's start simply: the family.  On March 1st, Josie came into our lives.  She had a bit of a rough start and, the day after we brought her home from the hospital, we had to take her right back! For several terrifying hours, I was afraid I was going to loose my new born daughter.  Fortunately, everything worked out and Josie, now 6 months old, is doing great!

-No changes in pets at the moment.  Worf is doing well but is starting to get old.  Hopefully he's got another couple years in him.

-I got a vasectomy! That was an experience.  Honestly, the worst part about the surgery itself was getting the local anesthetic.  That felt like getting kicked in the balls HARD.  But once it kicked in (and they had to do it on each side) it was totally fine.  We spent the whole time joking around.  I was on some good pain killers for the weekend and had to take it easy.  For a couple weeks afterwards, I was sore and had some minor complications  (NSFL warning: I had to express puss and blood from my stitches twice a day).  But I'm all better now and in about two months we can check to see if I'm sterile. In the mean time, we have to use condoms again.  I had forgotten how much it made sex smell like balloons.

-I had a blast at RTX!  I am so glad I went.  I got to meet a ton of RT peeps, like Jon, Miles, Josh, Marcus and Jeremy.  It was funny meeting Jon as I introduced myself and at first he was very "Meeting a fan" mode but once it clicked who I was, he gave me a great big hug (Jon is my primary contact at RT when I do my freelance work).  I really wanted to meet Burnie and Lindsay too (they are kind of my two favorite people who work at RT) but I didn't get the chance.  Its too bad but there will be other opportunities.  Like, literally next weekend, I'll be at Rose City Comic Con and I believe Lindsay and the rest of Team RWBY will be there, so I'll try to say Hi.  If you were at RTX and I didn't see you, I am sorry.  It was at times a bit overwhelming and I had to retreat to my hotel room more than once.  The room was GIANT and way too big for just me.  It had a sitting area for God's sake.

-I can't talk about it yet but I did a BIG project for RT.  I think more information will come out soon but I can't talk about it more than that for now.  If you were at Jon's Design panel at RTX, he mentioned it.

-My commissions are currently closed but I am planning to open them up soon.  I will be increasing the prices from what they were before.  I haven't 100% finalized it but they may go up in some cases double what they were before, perhaps more.  I just need to figure out how much time I tend to spend on a commission and what is needed of me.  With two kids now, my time has become really valuable.

-I'm going to be looking for other ways to expand my freelance work.  Unless RT decides to make me full time, I need to get more clients coming in.  I'd love to get back more into character design or storyboarding at some point too.

i think that's all for now.  Its nearly one and I should try to get some sleep.  I'll probably post another update in a couple months so check me out on Twitter @rogerbrunke for more regular updates!  Peace my dudes!

Rogzilla Returns!

THE LEGEND RETURNS!

OK, I'm not really a legend.

Also, I haven't gone anywhere, I just haven't been on the site for a bit.  But I've still been around.  Hopefully, you are all following me on Twitter, Tumbler or Instagram.  I'm usually pretty good about posting stuff on there.

If you haven't been following me, here are some updates!

-We moved into a new house.  A bigger office for me and a third bedroom for a potential second child.

-Also, we are having another kid! Josephine Rose is due in March.  Xander is very excited to be a big brother.

-Both of our cats passed away.  Its actually been quite a while but looking back on how long its been since I last posted and all the support we got for those two, I figured I would share.  What sucks is that neither was very old but they both had underlying medical conditions that would not give them a high quality of life.

-I am now working part time as an illustrator!  I'm not getting a ton of work right now but I'm usually fairly busy with my current availability.  I've done a bunch of artwork now for Rooster Teeth, including three charity posters and both the HnH and TnC posters.

-I also have a Patreon!  Check it out here!

Oh, and something super relevant for you guys, I'm FINALLY coming to RTX!!!!  I've got my tickets ordered and my hotel reservations done.  I just need to figure out my flight plans.  I'm hoping to see as many people as I can so please say "Hi" if you see me.

That's all for now, I'll try to post here again soon!

Commission Update - Delays

As some may remember from my last journal update, I recently lost my cat Zod and had been hoping to take on some commissions to to help pay the bill. As per the usual with this amazing community, plenty of people came forward to help out. I said I would come out with the details soon.

Well, its been a couple weeks now and I still haven't shared any details. So what's the deal?

Well, I'm going to have to delay the commissions for a while for a couple reasons. How long I'm not certain about but until at least mid to late February. There are a couple reasons.

  • First of all, time. I'm home for the holidays for the next couple weeks, but this is for the primary purpose of spending time with my family. I'm going to be doing some art, of course, but if I'm working on 4-6 commissions as well, I won't be really spending time with them.
  • Secondly, some freelance work I wasn't expecting to come through until March came up early. The good news is that it does pay pretty well, but it is going to take up a LOT of my art time until then.
  • Finally, is figuring out what I could do that would make the prices of $35 to $50 fair for everyone. Now that I'm doing more freelance work, my time is a lot more valuable. This would mean $35 to $50 wouldn't buy as much as they used to. And if I charge individuals less for same work, then that makes my other clients feel like I'm over charging them.

So, that's where we are right now. I'm sorry if anyone had their heart set on these and that it took me so long to post this. I think I knew it was going to have to come to this but I really wanted to see if I could make it work. I decided this morning that it just wouldn't work right now.

Thank you guys for your continued support. When I do reopen commissions, I'll make sure its at a time that works best for everyone.

On Being Catless - RIP Zod - 2006 - 2015

As some of you may recall, about three months ago, we had to put down my wife's cat, Shrapnel. It was hard to go through and caused a bit of a financial burden as it was $1000 after the surgeries and everything.

Well, last weekend, our other cat, my cat, Zod, got sick. I will spare all the details, but in short, we had to have him put down on Monday. It has hit our family quite hard at an unfortunate time of year.

So in one quarter, we went from two cats to no cats. Our only pet is our dog, Worf, who is awesome and amazing. Xander has taken it well, although we have told him that the cats now live with the vet. After coming home from the vet, Xander leapt into my arms asking me in an excited voice to "Go get Zod!" I nearly broke down crying then and there. Zod was such a great cat and I miss him so much.

I may be doing some commissions later this month to help with the vet bill. It is MUCH less this time around, but it is still Christmas. If I do, I will stream as I did last time. I will also be doing a limited number at a higher cost. What those numbers will be, I'll have to figure out. It may be four $50 pieces or five $35 pieces.

If you are interested, please let me know. My goal is to raise around $200.
