No wonder RT has neglected the community for so long. I'm disgusted by the most recent Off Topic. I am really happy that it happened, but due to the lack of comment on basically anything internal, I had no clue just how bad shit was. I've always known RT as a supportive community, a community that wanted to get together and have fun. The community started their own fan conventions before RTX was around, the community came together through their own efforts for community day. I saw so many pictures of diverse groups getting together, having fun, and bonding over their love of RT. I've also known the other side of RT. I was even part of it. Back when Jack joined the group, I was 100% on the "Jack hate train" and even got in trouble in the forums for it. Of course, I was much younger then (but still too old for that shit), and the internet was very different, but it (thankfully) didn't take me long to get over it and grow the fuck up. Even now I'm not the biggest fan of Jack, I don't always enjoy the content he's in, but that doesn't give me a right to fucking harass him! NOBODY HAS THAT RIGHT! That said, I always thought that's just what it was. "Don't fee the trolls" is a perfectly reasonable stance to take, and I still agree with it... but there's a difference between not feeding the trolls and allowing harassment to happen to your employees, to your coworkers, TO YOUR FRIENDS! We never REALLY knew what happened to Mika, she's so much classier than I thought, and so much more of a victim than I could have imagined. She APPARENTLY could have dragged RT through the FUCKING MUD, but she didn't. Instead she suffered quietly, quit quietly, let us all think that RT was still the progressive amazing place that we'd all kill to work at. The truth of the management at the RT offices is disgusting. I am ashamed to be part of the "Roosterteeth Community" that DROVE MIKA OUT! I'm disgusted to have supported this company with my money while it actively silenced and oppressed the people WE WERE LED TO BELIEVE WERE THEIR FRIENDS! I'm glad it's being brought to light... but I can't help but ask... Why didn't this end when Mika left? How was there such a specific example, such a bright fucking spotlight on the issue, but it's only NOW that we're addressing it? How much of this did Ray have to deal with? How much of it led to him leaving RT? Maybe it had nothing to do with it, but no way for us to know! It was all just swept under the rug. I've been a member of this site for 15 years, and I never knew of just how awful this shit was. I'm just truly disgusted. Sunlight is the best disinfectant, let's just hope RT can get a LOT of mother fucking sun.
