Hey guys

Hey everybody,

I hope you're all doing well, sorry I haven't been active on here in such a long time. I've been looking through my notifications and have been thoroughly amazed to see how everyone has been doing and what they've achieved in the past year. People getting married, having kids, moving houses and states. I'm happy to see so many people doing well!

For those who I haven't seen on other social media platforms this past year, let me give you the skinny on what happened in the past year:

The first half of 2016 was particularly rough on my family, with my brother Daniel being hospitalized after he fell over and broke both his arms (for those who don't recall, Dan has a rare genetic bone disorder). He was hospitalized for almost 3 months and nearly died twice in hospital. Afterwards he had to learn how to walk again, he's doing much better now and he's ready to move on from all that happened in 2016. So I'm definitely rooting for him this year.

I'm currently finishing up my Bachelor's Degree in Film & Television here in Australia, I just have one last credit point to finish up and then I'm done. Last November I completed my graduating film which I had the pleasure of co-writing with Dan and then directing (only about 13 students in the entire year level got to direct their own projects).

It's a short comedy called "Party Tricks" and I'm currently in the process of sending it around to film festivals! We had the good fortune to have it accepted into the Silver Wave Film Festival in Canada last year so hopefully that's only the beginning for its time on the festival circuit.

Other than that, I've been keeping myself busy, working where I can and I'm currently studying up on my trivia in preparation of going on Who wants to be a Millionaire: Hot Seat in February!

In-between takes while directing "Party Tricks" (2016)

This was a few night's into the shoot for my graduating short film last year, I had transformed the downstairs area of my family home in a party house for a solid week of shooting. I'm currently in the process of submitting the short film to festivals. Also yes, that is an MSF logo from the Metal Gear Solid franchise. And yes, I do need a more recent photo.

My brother thought he had bested me when he "Mulan'd" William Shatner. Little did he know... I play for keeps.

Melbourne Supanova Panel and other Stuff

Hey guys and gals,

First off, a little heads up for those of you heading to Melbourne Supanova this weekend, in case you haven't been keeping an eye on the Hanabee Updates, I'm going to be on a panel with my friend @sammy1cat, as well as visiting RT Staff @Barbara and @Arryn. We're going to be doing a little On The Spot variant game show, so if you're interested: We'll be at the Film Ink Theatre at 10:30AM to 11:20AM on the Saturday of the convention.
If you're unable to attend but still like the sound of that, don't worry, I'm told Hanabee will recording the panel and uploading the footage later!

As for what's new, I've been pretty busy being back at Uni, my film group and I have been in pre-production for making a 6 minute Neo-Noir short film. Things are starting to get traction, though we've been having some resistance from a particular member of the group, however I will admit that he and I have probably gone head-to-head more times than anyone else in the group. However once we're in production-mode, I'm sure we'll be getting along better. I'll go into detail in a Friends Only journal later 'cause... I've got some amazing stories there.

Besides that, the rest of my Uni subjects are going well and the Spartan Chest Piece is really starting to come together. Here are couple of Work In Progress photos, I'll post an update soon:

Hope you guys and gals are doing well!

Australia - Land of Griff

Last night I went to a joint birthday party held by a couple of high-school friends, Jordan and Andrew. The even was held at Jordan's place because it has become a routine spot for gatheirngs over the years due to his spacious backyard and a garage that's separate from the main house.

For a while I was worried the evening would degenerate into a series of group conversations filled with flurries of half-finished anecdotes, each one being forgotten part-way through or interrupted with a new tangent and a life of its own. All the while you and the only other sober person are periodically signalling each other like this.

Then my good friend Griff showed up. It was a genuine surprise as he had declined the invitation to attend due to work
"It's the rainy season up in the mines so I basically rocked up the other day and they said 'We can't do shit with this weather, you want a week off work?'"

So he hopped on a Qantas flight down to Melbourne from Queensland for his good friend's birthday and rocked up with a supply of Overproof Bundaberg rum. At last, it was story time. I asked what he had been up to and he brushed through the social pleasantry of the question in no time.

"Getting a scuba diving certification so I can get a job doing underwater welding next year. They only work 3 months of the year but they pay a shitload and you can only do the job for 3 or 4 years,"

I asked him why and he let out a chuckle.

"Hydrogen buildup in your bones. You remember Roy, right?" He was done with the topic and now it was time for a story. Roy was his mother's husband, I couldn't forget the man after hearing Griff talk about his attempt to use expired sticks of dynamite as fireworks.

"I went to my Mum's place one night and when I was pulling up the driveway I saw Roy run out of the house with a .223 rifle. I figured 'Oh shit, somethin' serious is about to happen, so I hop out of the car and start chasin' after him. I close the gate behind me, he looks around and spots me before darting around to the side of the house. I'm just about to turn the corner when I hear BANG, BANG, BANG! Then I just hear Roy yell 'Ha, fuckin' got 'em!' I ask him what the fuck's going on and he says 'It was a fuckin' Huntsman!'"

"I said to him 'You used a gun that fires ammunition that costs a dollar per bullet to kill a spider?' he just said 'Well I wanted to make sure he was dead, didn't I!?'"

More stories to come...

Short Films and Video Games

Hey guys and gals,

So the semester is over at long last and I've managed to survive relatively unscathed! Its been an interesting, albeit very all-consuming month as far as my attention and focus has been concerned. To which I think I went overboard in how I allocated my time due to how anxious I was about shooting my first short film but that overreaction definitely paid off in the long run. Still, at least I now know that it's possible to juggle that workload and still have time to update here!

The short film has been pretty successful, I screened it to a few of my peers before its final screenings and the reactions I received were certainly more than generous. One of my crew members from the shoot actually cried and I had to offer them a hug I think I was one of three people in my class who didn't film a comedic sketch so it definitely stood out! If you'd like to see the film, I'll post the link right below this paragraph. Please let me know what you think!
Last Call

In other news, I received a very pleasant surprise at my door today when I signed for a large box addressed to me and discovered the following:

Turns out 9 generous Aussie RT users decided to buy me an Xbox One for my 23rd birthday! Oh yeah, I turned 23 on the 27th for those who don't know but it's okay, I can hold a grudge. I was completely speechless when it happened, in fact, when I first saw the words "Xbox One" printed on the side of the box, I basically jumped back like it was a bomb and loudly uttered the words "Oh My God..."

So I would just like to take a moment to address all of my fellow RT fans by saying
"You're all insane... But I wouldn't have it any other way."
Many thanks!

I swear I'm not doing this intentionally

*Sean crawls out of the smouldering wreckage as we see one of his arms is actually a cybernetic prosthetic. Catching his breath, he stands up straight*

Long story short, my absence has not been a deliberate action.

Sorry guys, its taken me a bit of time to get used to a full study load at University and it's the first time I've had four classes to deal with (alongside my other projects) since I was in High-School so it has taken some doing.

But I'll let you know some of the key things that have been going on:

The review writing is still going strong and Sticky Trigger Entertainment is continuing to grow in its readership. The editors are ambitious and are actively working towards making this venture a paying gig for their staff members as well as themselves. I'm very excited for them to make this leap after having come to know them personally, but also because... I would really like a paying job.

I'm currently in the middle of pre-production for my first student short film. There's not a lot of time to organize everything but I'm revising the screenplay and continuing to develop the shot-list as well as the shooting list. Our assignment calls for us to make a 1 to 2 minute short film involving a theme of our choice but cannot involve synchronous sound. Meaning we shoot the footage on one day and record the audio on another day. I feel very confident with the story I have in mind as well as the shooting style I have planned and I'll let you know when I have a finished copy I can upload for viewing.

Still propmaking, by the way! However I have decided to rebuild the ODST helmet as well as the Chest Piece as the former was too small and the latter was too big but just had a myriad of problems that were quite simply my own fault. So here's the rebuilt chest piece prior to the first coat of resin I put on the outside the other day:

Edit: Admittedly I posted some old photos of the previous chest piece by mistake. My bad, it's 3AM here and I'm a little tired.

9 Years

On the 23rd of July, 2005 I took the opportunity to exploit a brief change in the age requirement of the Rooster Teeth membership policy and signed up for an account here. So here's to 9 nine years of posting my personal brand of random nonsense while gathering some of the closest friends I've ever had the privilege to know. As you can see, I celebrated the occasion in the best way I know how:

The prop making is still progressing, by the way. I'm also currently re-building a chest piece for that Carter helmet in the above photo as I felt that I made too many mistakes on the last one. Here's how that's looking so far:

Happy 9 Years of Rooster Teeth mayhem!
