I hate good byes

In two days I get on a train and start my long journey back to New Zealand. Tonight I had the bitter sweet task of saying good bye to the RTUK group.

Let's rewind a bit, I joined the RTUK group two years ago when I knew I was moving to London, however, due to financial restraints and work commitments I never made it to one of their big events.

A few months ago, coming off a night shift, I saw that Jack was going to be doing an impromptu meetup in London. I took this as my chance to get involved in the community here so went along to meet people. I was there for the better part of 6 hours and it was great getting to hang out with the cominity again. I hadn't realised just how much I'd missed it since leaving NZ 18 months prior.

During that meet I promised to organise another one and a month later I followed through and had a small meetup at an arcade bar. I think it was there that I became good friends with a small group of people.

So I held more more meetups and met more people, a lot of whom I know I will have life long friendships with.

Fast forward back to tonight where I held my last event and had to say good bye to so many amazing people who I absolutely love and wish I could spend many more nights with chatting about everything under the sun.

As hard as it is to say good bye I does make me appreciate what good friendships I have with everyone here.

If you're reading this and arnt currently involved in a sub community I fully recommend getting involved with your local RT fandom, you will meet awesome people who love the same things you do.

To my friends in RTUK I can't describe how much I am going to miss you. I love you all. Don't be strangers you can always find me online.

We are family, family love each other.

Xo

Monty

In July 2013 a few days before RTX I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Monty. I was hanging out at the Rooster Teeth offices for the morning and made it a point to go and introduce myself. As I approached his desk he swung around and did a small double take and said Nick? to which I nodded and responded "Monty."

This moment stands out to me so much because in that tiny exchange we seemed to immediately become friends and to this day I'm still not sure how it happened. We went on to have a small chat but for the rest of the weekend whenever we crossed paths Monty would take the time to stop and ask me how my weekend was going and how my girlfriend was doing.

I even remember asking Chris how it was that someone could so instantly be that delightful and genuinely interested in what I had to say. But that's just who Monty was, he was just as excited to meet me as I was to meet him. Everything he did was for his fans and it all excited and motivated him.

During RTX I was luckily enough to attend a couple of the staff parties and even luckier to be convinced to get on the dance floor because there I had the pleasure of dancing with Monty. Whilst I probably made a fool of myself next to the amazingness that was Monty it was, and still is, one of the greatest moments of my life.

I know his passing will affect millions of people but the silver lining is that his work will live on and his fans will keep his memory alive. In the past few days I have seen a mountain of RWBY artwork posted online and I know that it is only the tip of the iceberg.

In this time it is ok to feel however you feel and no one can tell you otherwise. I believe that everyone grieves differently and comes to peace in there own way and time.

I love and miss you Monty; I know it's been said before but you really were and continue to be an inspiration.

To steel a quote from RvB "They say you're never completely gone if someone still remembers you" -Tex
