So for the first time in years I'm going to another Monster Jam event! I had a nice streak going of 27 years in a row but that broke when I moved here to Austin. Yes, I've been going to monster trucks since I was a baby.
So the closest place that I can go see them is either the tiny event center downtown, or go to a separate city. San Antonio is 1.5 hours south, Dallas is 3 hours north and Houston is 3 hours east. So by math I'll be taking the San Antonio event.
Here is where Ticketmaster comes in. The tickets I want are top level, near the 30 yard line. Stadium price is 22 bucks. Also get 2 pit passes cause it's been a few years. They're selling them online for 10 a pop. Alright, comes out to 64 bucks of tickets. THEN the "convince fees" start to pile up. For each seat it comes with a 4$ facility charge and a 10$ Ticketmaster charge. And then there's a 9% sales tax which brings the cost up to 95 bucks. Yeah fuck that.
So this year I'm going down to San Antonio 3 weekends in a row for this reason! I just went this past Friday to the Alamodome in person to pick up 2 tickets at face value, 22 bucks each. They weren't selling the pit passes so I had to head deeper into the city to a Metro PCS location to pick them up for free. Just had to show that I already bought my tickets to the event.
All in all I came out WAY on top. TM was 95$ for all the items, Going myself in person was about 56 bucks after gas. It's nice it's only a half a tank there and back. Also, going down there again the weekend after next on Saturday for PAX South. Just the day thing, it's cool to head to a different city for a nice gaming convention where I can play steel battalion.
