I'm still trying to do the math on Critical Role. Do they just have way more subs than everyone else? Because they only stream once, rarely twice a week, for 3-5 hours. That's not a lot of ad time. During that time period they had about 30k subs on average, which I'm sure wasn't the top.
@JzaJensen I think it's a few things combined. While the Thursday show is by FAR their most popular, they have had a regular Tuesday night show, and some other one-off streams. Add to that, not only do they have a high sub-count, but it's a consistent sub count.
Where most of the money comes I believe is from the total views on their content. There's a significant amount of people that can't watch the Thursday shows live, so they also have a metaphorical ton of post-premier views. Just pulling up some of the recent shows on Twitch has some of the episodes of their recent campaign with between 750k and 1 mil views. The final episode is listed as 1.9 million views. They may only have the one big show, but it's massive.
@JzaJensen The number that was leaked for everyone IS ONLY SUBS. People insinuating this is their whole income is ridiculous.. this is like 1/4th their income if not closer to 1/8
Im pretty sure in the near future twitch gets sold off by amazon.. theyre not generating anywhere to close enough revenue, theyre a total pain in the ass liability and the whole reason Amazon wanted in was to compete against steam and they nixxed that whole idea. So its kind of useless. Im pretty sure even Audible makes more money. Twitch doesnt even fund or sponsor the creation of games.. Humble Bundle does more in that department.. If streamers werent there to generate most the revenue their sole income would be selling 3rd party keys.
@DeathToDegeneracy I mean Bruce and Lawrence actually make amazing money, whereas the Funhaus crew are drowning and underpaid by Roosterteeth. And YouTube doesn’t pay it’s streamers nearly as much as Twitch, nor does it have the setup for the same kind of revenue. So I’ll take Twitch over YouTube anyway.
