Something regarding Jackie's point, I think leaving threads where a discussion was had is useful, but perhaps leaving a note on it to say why it wasn't removed, even if it's just a little 'historical' icon or something added to it just to clarify that?
You three are basically the first line of defense against the toxicity and hatred that would try and find its way into this community. It's egregious how underappreciated the sheer amount you all put into keeping our community welcoming is. Thank you for everything you do, and remember to drink water!
Hi! I was totally one of those people who questioned why the OP comment is still visible when it says something toxic (I know Jackie and I were having a conversation on one of those threads, I did reply saying similar to what I'm about to say but I think the thread was deleted by the OP and my reply disappeared).
I'm so glad these conversations are finally happening, I'm someone who'll report every toxic comment I see cause it's so upsetting. My personal opinion on the matter is that we shouldn't let hate comments remain. I think getting people to change their opinions is a good thing and very very hopeful, but I worry that the damage might already be done in harming whoever the comment is aimed at (especially when it comes to racism, sexism, homophobia etc, or even just unconstructive hate). If a hate comment remains visible it might encourage people to speak up with their own toxicity, since one person gets away with it, they might think they can get away with it too.
Can't thank you guys enough for everything you guys do as mods and CM's. I can't imagine how much stress is on you guys (especially rn) and I have so much respect for you all. Looking forward to seeing how this community grows and becomes a better/happier place for everyone <3
@QuartzPeach Thank you for reporting what you see! You help us find where the problems are so we can find better ways to address then overall. And thank you for your feedback. <3
I just found about this postcast last week and I love it! Thank you for producing this amazing content. I am looking forward to watching these every week. :)
Heinz "57" is a reference to the original range of 57 products that Heinz produced, I don't think it's 57 ingredients in that sauce.
I love this little Vodcast with you guys though!
I really liked hearing from all of you about your backgrounds. I grew up in a family where religious culture was a little bit of an issue. My mom was raised Catholic and my dad was raised Christian. They both converted to Buddhism when in their early twenties and met each other through their Buddhist organization. While I didn't get a lot of grief about it to my face, there have been conversations and situations where I was made to feel uncomfortable about my being raised Buddhist, or getting frustrated with some of the ways family members would follow certain beliefs blindly even though some of those beliefs were hurtful toward other family members. I feel like growing up with that struggle within my family has helped me to learn to be more open and receptive toward people being different from me. I'd rather embrace people where they are than pass judgement on them.
I really want to thank all of you for focusing so much on trying to improve the ways you handle the community to help create a more positive experience for everyone. We don't need hate in our community, and it doesn't cost anything to try to be kinder, better people.
@ctaekotemple Thank you for sharing <3 Honestly, I feel like a lot of the struggles that we experience is one of the keys to understanding and learning empathy.
Thank you Jackie ! I also used to call myself a hybrid! but that might be because I used to into gargoyle/ furry fan fiction as a teen. my Twitter is @Celticmexican . I caught so much crap for growing up in San Antonio and not speaking Spanish. Chelsea, my dad always called us Heinz 57.
