I've been pretty obsessed with the Escape The Dark series of board games, specifically the Dark Castle, from Themeborne.
If you haven't heard of it, it's a rouge like sort of board game where you randomly build the castle (deck of scenario cards) and roll dice against monsters, enemies or scenarios that happen in that chapter, goal of the game is to escape the castle with everyone still alive. The art is incredible and is what initially drew me in, couple it with the eerie background music (I'm using the cassette) and maybe dim lights and candles and you've got a very memorable game for friends.
It takes the best parts of what I love about D&D (the atmosphere, suspense and teamwork) and condenses it down to a game that lasts about 40 minutes or so.
If this retro style commercial they made doesn't get you excited, then I don't know what will!
