I really don't want this to turn into a another back and forth about the right and wrong about this case. I want to see what other people think about some of the unique backlash that has been coming from this situation.
Recent reports coming from Baltimore have been putting a rise in murder rate and crimes in general in the city over the last month. Local residents are citing the lack of a police presence to enforce law and keep crime down. While the police maintain that they are still policing the 'bad' areas of town as they were before. There has been a drop in arrest rates during this period that correlates with the rise in the crime rate. There is a lot going on here on both sides of the board, civilian and law enforcement, that are contributing. Routine police stops are drawing large crowds of individuals that gather at the scene and in some cases interact with the situation. Police are also trying to figure out the protection they have under the law of doing their job and showing up to a bad situation. Are they protected? Are they culpable?
I'm not wanting to discuss what happened. I want to see what people think will happen.
