The political sphere has changed numerous times since the conception of the democracy that once was. When this change occurs, we in the political science field call it a "Realigning Election." Instances like so can change the aspect of the american life for years to come. For example, in the 19th century we see the rise of the Republican party and then during reconstruction era a complete overhaul of two major parties stemming from the 1860 election. Whether that's good or bad change is subjective.
In the recent 2016 election, when polarity between parties is at its all time high, I think that we are in the middle of one of those shifts. With both parties having the "with us or against us" mentality, the idea of pragmatism no longer exist. The loss for Hilary Clinton has seemed to fracture the Democratic party. With this being said, I think that this shift is going to cause a rebirth of a democratic party that lies heavily with the neo-liberalism ideology.
With the state of the current political sphere, Where do you see the future of American Politics going? Could our two-party system ever come back from this polarity differential?
