So we spent all this time writing up this post in May for our featured groups and only just realized we never posted it. *facepalm* So! You get double the group feature today! First, is May. Beacon Academy Midwest Almost 6 years running, we are the largest RWBY community in the Midwestern US. Founded by friends who wanted a place for RWBY fans to hang out, we grew to over a thousand people and a close-knit community of fans and friends. During that time, a group of us noticed that conversations often got lost in the mix as people posted without regard to any content that was previously being discussed. It came down to simple perception: Most new and younger users use the forums much like a chatroom. Chatrooms are social nexus where everything being discussed is completely fluid and without permanency. Some of us took the view of forums as a place where people put thought into their posts, ensuring that what was being communicated was of general value and was easily understood. Not wanting to wrest control of the Level 20 Welcome Forum, we sat down to create a new space. And the Oxford Comma Café was born. We pride ourselves on our ability to have conversations on any topics without devolving into flame wars and derogatory language. As the founder of the OCC I cannot tell you how pleased I am with how our members self-police themselves. It is amazing to see so many people from so many different walks of life, perspectives, and inclinations working together to ensure each other has the right and is comfortable to express their opinions…even if that person disagrees with them. What brings us together is our love for the RT community! It started about 3 years ago with a small group of RT users looking for people to play games with. After some changes, it then blossomed into a structured community group with active chatter and long-lasting friendships. But we don't just chit chat, we also have regular events. These include game nights in games like Jackbox, Golf with Your Friends, Tabletop Simulator, and more! We also have regular movie nights and even some creative events like live writing challenges. During these live challenges participants are given a starting line, then write for twenty minutes, and afterward share their work out loud. In the past, we've also had weekly creative prompts where people would submit pieces of work inspired by a theme, whether poems, drawings, or any other medium! Outside of scheduled creative adventures, we love seeing the cool projects that our members work on and have a channel dedicated just to sharing those creations. There are also many members who like hanging out in voice chat, sometimes streaming gameplay, and enjoying the game together. At times we've dabbled in dubbing dialogue in games for fun as well. So far we've had two meetups in person. Our first meetup was at RTX 2018 with ten members who saw each other offline for the first time! After playing some video games together, this time within slapping distance of each other, we left RTX that year knowing our fellow members in a different light. We continued the fun the following year at RTX 2019 with giant burritos and card games, and hope to have many more! Whether you're a community veteran or just starting out, we're here to help make your experience as a cosplayer even better. We have prop-makers and experts ready to help you work out the technical aspects, and a massive community to help you feel at home. We've been around for two years, and can already boast one of the larger RT community Discord servers. RTX (fingers crossed!) will host multiple in-person events, from photo-shoots to our signature Villains' Ball. Cosplay may be satisfying on its own, but everything better with good company! Right now our server is very busy, and we have very regular voice-chat nights, party games, and even some movie streams. We're closely tied to other great RT communities and servers, so RTCos also serves as an amazing way to get into the larger community. We have so many exciting projects happening right now on the server, with top-tier cosplayers giving everyone a look at their process, from beginning to end. This is Rooster Teeth Dating. RTD is run by a lovely group of admins with badass bitch Mairi, and cool dude Hawke at the head the team includes: Trash girl Ali, Thotmin Josh, Old Man Jim, All-star Ashley, and I ran out of names Osmar. We're very happy and proud of the relationships that many in the group have formed whether it be romantic or friendship or otherwise. We're completely inclusive for all LGBT+ members. We have a no-tolerance policy for racism/ sexism/ homophobia. It's not just about being a dating group, we're also very happy to have members who are willing to teach and learn about different people and how they live and love.
