Happy Community Day, July 2020! This month we are featuring 3 groups that are streaming communities. We'll be talking about them all month long on social media, but we also want to highlight the groups here too. If you enjoy watching streams and want to get into those communities, these are a great place to start! DooleyNotedGaming When Jeremy Dooley started streaming in 2016, the Rally came into existence. Our current mods are NobleLance (Noble), DemonSpock (Becky), WalkingSaints (Taylor), AmericanSneakers (Mel), Cobbleopolis (Cobble), FieldDoc (Travis), M3gaShiny (Meghann), and DMBDan41 (Dan). Since 2017, we've held meetups at RTX: one before RTX with just the mods and the community, and another during the con with the Dooleys. We strive to be a place where people can come and chill for a while and have fun. Though sometimes we fall off a schedule because of our schedules, we try to have regular game nights in the server and have community members who help us out with running these events. We also are starting to get in the groove of having monthly book chats with Kat Dooley! We love that we have people from all over the RT community in our small corner of it. Whether you're mainly an AH fan, you love all of RT, or if you're just a fan of Jeremy, you're welcome in our small corner of the internet. We love the positivity that comes from the community and the friendships that come from being part of it. Shark Mages Matt {Bragg]'s community is going on over a year strong. He's been a dedicated person to his community and treats everyone as an equal. We welcome any person whom may want to join for chill streams, as well those that want to enjoy the ability of punishing a streamer at least one per week. He brings along a lot of positive vibes and has built a safe environment for everyone that just wants to sit down and laugh pretty much the whole time watching. Skeleton Crew Kent [Cook] started streaming in July 2018 to raise awareness for his son’s rare genetic disorder, Klippel Feil Syndrome. From his streams came the Skeleton Crew community. We formed our own Extra Life sub team in 2019 and raised over $6,000 for the kids. We are a family of many different types of people who love welcoming new friends into the Crew and supporting each other. Whether it’s playing games with or without Kent, discussing what we’re watching, or just chatting in VC we love spending time together and having fun. During RTX we have an “official” meet up with Kent, but we also room together, meet up for dinners, and sit together in panels (like the AH BTS panel where we embarrassed Kent). Our goal as a community is to provide a safe welcoming place to everyone. We aren’t the biggest of the streaming communities but we’re very active, so if large groups intimidate you, we’re the perfect introduction into the RT streaming groups! What brings us together is our love for the RT community! It started about 3 years ago with a small group of RT users looking for people to play games with. These include game nights in games like Jackbox, Golf with Your Friends, Tabletop Simulator, and more! We also have regular movie nights and even some creative events like live writing challenges. During these live challenges participants are given a starting line, then write for twenty minutes, and afterward share their work out loud. In the past, we've also had weekly creative prompts where people would submit pieces of work inspired by a theme, whether poems, drawings, or any other medium! Outside of scheduled creative adventures, we love seeing the cool projects that our members work on and have a channel dedicated just to sharing those creations. There are also many members who like hanging out in voice chat, sometimes streaming gameplay, and enjoying the game together. At times we've dabbled in dubbing dialogue in games for fun as well. So far we've had two meetups in person. Our first meetup was at RTX 2018 with ten members who saw each other offline for the first time! RTX (fingers crossed!) will host multiple in-person events, from photo-shoots to our signature Villains' Ball. Cosplay may be satisfying on its own, but everything better with good company! Right now our server is very busy, and we have very regular voice-chat nights, party games, and even some movie streams. We're closely tied to other great RT communities and servers, so RTCos also serves as an amazing way to get into the larger community. We have so many exciting projects happening right now on the server, with top-tier cosplayers giving everyone a look at their process, from beginning to end. Someone I've known for every minute of their 18-year life. Died today as they committed suicide because of other people bullying them because they were a non-binary, pansexual black person who dressed in bright coloured clothing and always had brightly coloured hair in funky styles. Yet other people through their hatred made my friend, my goddaughter, hate the world and herself so much that she took her own life. She left a note saying she was going to heaven as there is no hate there. And I just I can’t I won’t understand why. Just why. There is no god damn reason that can explain that to me right now. Just that the world has claimed another person away from me and once again I’m left not understanding. Just I can’t and won’t understand racism, sexism, or any kind of abuse to people. The circle of ignoring it needs to stop. People need to change, change must happen. Black people are people and they matter, they do. That’s a fact, not opinion…FACT. I won’t allow people to discredit them. It’s not right. If you can help in any way, please do.
