RTX 2015

So, did anyone else have a negative experience with JW Marriott?

Saw this mess on reddit today and it was very validating to know my experience wasn't a one-time thing or just one disgruntled employee. Seeing this brought the memories back from this past RTX.

Let me just say, it's a very beautiful hotel and there were some extremely helpful, sincere people at the front desk that went above and beyond to make each person feel welcome and comfortable. On Saturday night, half of our group of just-met-yesterday friends (let's call them Friend #2 and #3) went to the concert. Meanwhile, another Friend #1 and I went to a panel and then waited for the concert to end to all go to dinner (STILL regret not going to that show). Neither of us had any idea how late the show would run and decided to relax in the Starbucks area and charge our dying phones and overheated brains. At some point a security guard came by and asked if we were staying there. As a very last minute offer, Friend #2 was letting me stay with him at the Marriott and Friend #1 had his own room, promptly showed the guard his room key. Over the next two hours, I fell asleep in my chair only to wake up to the same security guard and another glaring at me. I apologized immediately, knowing that even though there was no one else on the floor at 11pm it still was not okay to sleep in public lounging areas.

They listened to none of it and proceeded to tell me my name wasn't on the room I had given. Okay, cool. I get it. That sounds shifty. One quick telling of my college-broke financial standing and the extreme kindness of new friends (as well as another apology for the misunderstanding) later and they were escorting me down stairs along with a "you can't be here". #1 tried talking them and they demanded he show his room key again and loudly spell his name. Again, without hesitation he complied. Half an hour later, we are standing outside, away from blocking any doors/valet/sidewalk, and the guards come outside and demand we leave the premises or the cops will be called. Same explanation is given with an additional "our friends are walking here now".

You don't know me, but for this you need to know one thing: I am extremely non-confrontational. I will do damn near ANYthing to avoid an argument or people not liking me. So, one last-ditch attempt is with the sincere addtiona of leveling with him about how stressful these weekends are on hotel staff and how he doesn't know me either, but I am a guest here and Friend #1 IS in their system. As a very professional response, I was accused of being a liar and my friend was ordered to give his information again.

Friend #2 and #3 showed up soon after and, you won't believe it, security was nowhere to be seen! Go figure. I would have shared this with a manager or posted sooner, but the stress and embarrassment had me just wanting to put it behind me. It was actually nice to see this post today and know they can be known for pulling some crazy stuff.

Phew! Okay, with all of that said, anyone else have a bad experience?

[P.S. I don't want to start a bashing thread and I certainly didn't say all of this to say "don't have RTX there again!" Every other moment was a great time I won't soon forget :3 venting is healthy especially if it can be constructive!]
