Hey, Happy #RTCommunityDay!
There's a tweet that this is in response to. Rooster Teeth wants to know, after 18 years, "Why are you here?" And they want stories.
The obvious answer about what got me started, well: "I've told this story so often, it might even be true."

That is definitely a correct answer, but like in Red vs Blue, this is a very open question that can have a lot of interpretations on how to answer.
So, I’m a long-term fan of Rooster Teeth because the company is still around which is how I can still be a fan of it.
What, did you figure because this is a post on the RT Site that I had a LOT more to say that 288 characters so I didn’t do a tweet?
Well of course I do! Why else would I not be doing a part of those big RvB academicish posts. (Oh, I also have a new/old job now, there’s a new branch of the popular bookstore chain opening up soon. I think my schedule will become both more limited but easier to predict now.)
I can directly site the bigger project for this quick post. I’m here because of Rooster Teeth consistently being a source of entertainment, community, and personal advancement in my life and I stick around because of that.
When I went off to college I made quite a few new friend groups but I found myself deep in the forums during an easier semester & the Chorus Trilogy. And the RT stuff popped up in my friend groups, a bit of a first. Usually it was me sliding in this Texan comedy group during conversations. But people were really interested in this new CG Anime that was coming out at the time… Before I forget to mention it again, I also wrote papers and did other assignments focusing on Rooster Teeth. It was a part of my academic life and the focus of half a semester officially. Not to mention that I brought what I learned into the community too in my analysis of the shows, the theory behind the work, and also some community management stuff.
Two of my greatest friendships in college were formed around RT. Someone who I actually went down on Valentines Day to see Deadpool and the RWBY V.3 Finale with (not a romantic trip, but how things worked out). And then there’s my other buddy who was angry she had to watch RvB season-by-season for three weekends then, while complaining asked how I accomplished it over 11ish years. (I still don’t know.)
So, RvB and all the RT stuff I watched too kept me very satisfied. I remember when (in college) I could not only watch all the content I wanted, but ALL the content if I wanted each day. Rooster Teeth sure has grown since those days, but don’t get me wrong, I’m not disappointed that I can no longer keep up in that way, and I don’t mean to disparage the stuff I don’t want to watch. It makes me so happy that Rooster Teeth can be so much more to so many more people.
I was also following RTX closely. I really wanted to go, but it wasn’t until I got back from college and reconnected with my friend from high-school, Maddy, who Guardian-ed that it really became a possibility and a part of what I do. Because of that reconnection that RT facilitated I started attending RTX and plan to keep doing so in whatever capacity I can as the years go on. RTX is one of the first things I’ve done exclusively because it was what I wanted to do and I did it largely on my own. Buying the ticket, taking the flight, doing the whole getting around a new city by myself thing. All the RTX’s I’ve been to have been a series of firsts for me. Including the first time I walked miles across a new town in 90 degree weather in a full wool kilt and jacket (it was before that character got changed forever by the creator). I even was going to Guardian in 2020 (I was accepted) but we all know what happened. I also was introduced to my amazing friends like Johannah who co-lead RT Seattle before I was allowed to come on board (then 2020 happened so we’re working internally what we do after). There’s also so many folks I have met through RT Seattle and other RT community groups (and RTX) that I can’t properly list here, but it’s just astounding that I have such a notework of people in my life. I can also use my rhetoric-based education in my role as a community person which is great!
There’s also a huge shout-out to my friends in the Oxford Comma Café, who are an RT started fun bunch of people who I can take part in any conversation with. And they’re also from all over the world which would have been impossible if not for us all coming together on a site based around a comedy company in Texas.
I’m here, I’m a part of the Rooster Teeth Community, because it has been an awesome part of so many spheres of my life for this whole time (or at least the 15ish years I’ve really been in it).
Also, despite the changes and the growth that have made Rooster Teeth and its content very different from when I started watching, I’m also here because I enjoy it. Rooster Teeth’s simple goal of making content that they want to see has also been a continuing hit for me all this time. There’s certainly some stuff that resonates with me more than others, but that’s me. I’ll watch what I like and I can’t argue with others watching and creating what they like.
And after all these years, the digital puppetry of a group of colorful misfits still is one of my favorite things ever… Of all time.
