Douglas Lee Williams helped lead the Redskins to a victory in Super Bowl in the 1987-1988 season. The season prior, he played backup to Jay Schroeder, but Schroeder was prone to injury. Schroeder and Williams never had good relations. Despite the 0-2 record for starting games, Williams was often called in to finish games for the Redskins to get the win. His performance got him the starting role in Super Bowl XXII (22) where he earned MVP honours when beating a John Elway lead Denver Broncos in a score of 42-10. Denver scored 10 to Redskins 0 in the end of the first quarter. Williams the brought 42 unanswered points. Douglas Lee Williams was the first black quarterback to when the Super bowl and Super Bowl MVP honours. Williams also earned many other records for his Super Bowl performance.
