Space is the topic of this episode's conversation between Joel and Rooster Teeth personality Aaron Marquis, filmmaker Owen Egerton and host of The Physics Girl, Dianna Cowern.
@DarthNerdist No he clearly left to do his own thing called THE KEPPY. I suppose that doesn't mean they couldn't have him back from time to time. Wish him all the best. This also was filmed like a year ago I think?
Disappointed in this episode. So much opportunity for real education and conversation about some real topics, but just seemed when every opportunity came up for that, it was just shot down. I’ve been really impressed with the other episodes of this show, but this one was just DOA.
The first guy they asked a question to was immediately wrong XD. Space is not infinite. It just appears infinite because we can't see the real end, we can only see our observable universe
@Piglover742 due to run away expansion, the universe is growing in size. At the same time matter will dissipate and eventually entropy will become infinite.
@crazyjivin the universe is expanding, but infinite implies it will expand forever, which isn’t the case. It’ll take a few hundred billion years, but considering the patterns scientists have discovered, the universe will begin to shrink back inward, eventually collapsing on itself and potentially creating another big band. Obviously, this is all theoretical until it happens, but the universe has an edge, we just can’t even begin to imagine its size haha
@crazyjivin that’s a common misconception because the universe appears to be expanding indefinitely, considering the time frame is far beyond what our brains can comprehend, but as far as I know, the universe is believed to be a “closed universe” which means it will eventually contract until it reaches the “Big Crunch,” in contrast to the Big Bang.
Science doesn’t kill our dreams, it allows us to approach our dreams and investigate them.. It allows us to discover new frontiers and hence new dreams.
Personally I think we need to postpone space exploration until things down here on Earth are taken care of.
Half the planet wants the other half dead or enslaved, while the other half just want to have enough money to be able to live comfortably.
Also, until we discover some miracle of sustainable clean energy, we don't really have the resources to waste on space exploration that wont really give us anything worth while for decades if not centuries.
