I would not want to be in Chris's situation. It'd be sooo awkward that i would not be able to handle it.

1) if Chris telling this story and Burnie telling the story of the working girl and her John have taught me anything, don't EVER try to be a hero in situations like this.
2) Man, that really sucks for Chris.
3) Can't wait for Hembo to do this one
You should always try and be the "hero" here. A stranger would not be asking for your help if it wasn't serious, and if you aren't an enormous ball of awkward like Chris, it really isn't that hard. If he had explained the situation to his actual date, I bet it would have gone much better for him.
At least Chris' dates actually show up
