Just wanna point out real quick that Lelouch isn't shown alive in the subbed version. That's an edit that someone made, hence the driver suddenly loses his mask that he was wearing two seconds earlier. In all versions, it ends with C.C. looking up at the sky and then a shot of the crane.
The writers themselves even outright said that he's dead.
Link me that quote from the writers. Im genuinely curious. Also....how is he in the third season? Code Geass continues the tradition of making me feel like I took crazy pills.
@Austin - In the Japanese release there is an extra scene after CC gives her speech that shows the bottom half of the driver's face and it looks like Lelouch. However, the creators of the anime stated that Lelouch is dead. The question is whether he received the Code and was resurrected like CC. Obviously the creators have their answer since Lelouch is alive for season 3.

No idea what's going on with the third season tbh. One of the things I'm worried about is they go back on their word and rewrite the canon like Glen from Walking Dead. Lelouch's death was so wonderfully done and the self-sacrifice aspect of it cemented his position of one of the best characters ever in fiction.
It could be that some new Geass stuff brings his spirit back, though. There's a LOT to do with Geass that was never fully explored, so the possibilities are open.
The promotional image though shows Suzaku in his Warrent Officer uniform, Lelouch in his school uniform, Kallen as a Black Knight, and Nunally blind, as well as a guy from a spin off who lived in the Fuedal Era, so I don't think the image has anything to do with S3 itself. (Unless there's another article out there that I missed)
Honestly, all I know of it is it's called 'resurrection', but this doesn't necessarily have to do with Lelouch, so... For now, I'm just gonna wait and see, and hope they don't just bring him back out of nowhere for the sake of pandering.
Unfortunately I can't find a source for you, although trying to find it I realise I was slightly mistaken: the director confirmed it, not the writers. Even outside of that, though, in the series itself it wouldn't make sense for Lelouch to have survived. First off, Nunally and C.C. wouldn't have been as sad as they were. Second, Charles and Marianne were never 'killed' in the traditional sense. They were trapped - a fate worse than death. Third... pretty sure someone would've noticed a dead guy getting up in front of the entire world.

So I am only 5 minutes in, but I am already so fucking happy. NEW CODE GEASS. YAS. That was seriously my second or third anime (besides the ones I watched as a small child).
even without the regular cast. STILL AN AMAZING SHOW. cannot stress more what a welcome addition to the rooster teeth line up Fanservice is!
code geass is the anime i showed to my group of friends and turned 10 of them into otakus and they have rewatched code geass 3 or more times since that first time. It is also still to this day is my number 1 anime.
