Always Open returns for a special PRIDE episode! The yellow booth is back with Barbara, Mariel and their special guests Kayla Milton, Zoe Terhune, Sam Starr and TEXAS!
Funded by AT&Ts anti LGBT lobbying, lol... the fucking irony. For those too stupid to know AT&T has been funding anti gay politicians and laws and lobbyists over the course of decades.. While all the companies technically owned by AT&T through a layer of shell companies rally on about pride. Isnt this the kind of hypocrisy people SHOULD care about? Preaching a bunch of words mean nothing next to real world money and power. You'll never subvert AT&T to change by just talking about it all the time. In fact I know folks who would call that fascistic as the propaganda mill running 24/7 just normalizes you to be ok with the hypocrisy which leads to further oppression.
@DRAWandQUARTERJ0GGERS Hi! Speaking of propaganda, can I interest you in some communism? AT&T own the means of production and profit from this episode of Always Open. The labour the cast and crew are providing in return for only part of the wealth generated is positive. It's intended effect is to undo a small amount of the social harm done by the larger system of oppression. The oppression exists to make the alternative to participating in the system of moving wealth into the possession of individuals with already unspendable amounts of wealth.
Bear with me, though. I'm going to have to go on a bit of a walk here.
The housing market is being bought up by individuals with unspendable amounts of wealth. They are inflating prices meaning earning enough to own your home is too expensive. Homelessness is then used as a threat to use against people who are underpaid when they ask to be paid more.
The media market is being bought by individuals with unspendable amounts of wealth. They are limiting the time given to voices of vulnerable individuals and co-opt their art and imagery for profit and do not pay them enough.
The food market is owned by individuals with unspendable amounts of wealth. The prices are kept low by exploiting workers because people aren't paid enough to afford ethically produced food. Profit is still produced for the individuals with unspendable wealth. Too much food is produced, but it is destroyed.
AT&T profit from RT's genuine efforts to platform and pay LGBTQIA+ people by using their unspendable amounts of capital to own the means of production. AT&T also use their wealth to maintain systems of oppression so they can continue to extract profit. Systemic change comes when enough people no longer accept the normalised system of oppression and know they can count on enough others to help change happen. This is not currently the case. What RT is doing here is help individuals by informing, discussing and diverting some wealth to charities who can make money have a disproportionately large positive effect thanks to their organisation.
My queer icon is Dr. Rachel Levine. She was the former Secretary of Health for Pennsylvania and is currently the United States assistant secretary for health. She is the first openly trans federal official confirmed my senate. She is a bad ass woman who is an amazing champion for healthcare. She has had to put up with a lot of hate speech, especially during the pandemic, but never once backed down in the face of being bullied. The world could use a lot more women like Dr. Levine.
As a soon 29 year old still dealing with a lot of questions about my gender and sexuality, this episode seriously had me tearing up. But thank you for it, the conversation seriously gave me some new ways to think about it that I think will be extremely helpful <3 Thank you so much for this
Being back at my parents house has been hard in me not being able to express myself fully. Having to hide who I am hurts. I look forward to moving back out and letting my poly-pan flags fly
Being a Bi woman married to a man loved the answers to that question! <3
Although there is also this odd trend I stuggle with of Bi people on TikTok or whatever of "yeah i am bi but ek men", i understand some people may feel this way but it makes me feel so ignored by what should be my own community. If anyone else feels this hmu, all Bi are Bi no matter the %either way.
