Chris is running there now. The sequel to A Simple Walk Into Mordor.

I was half expecting them to call for John Mace instead.

He deals with building maintenance and if this were a real production server rack it'd need an okay from higher up (not necessarily Matt) to get the expenditure authorised... these things are _Expensive_!

Lots and lots of spaghetti code and outdated parts. It got to the point where it was easier to start over then untangle it all.

by no means an expert but this is a fairly old website and so I'd imagine that completely re-designing the architecture from the ground up would be simpler than trying to re-purpose what they already had :) 

Also a completely new look will draw in more new people than an updated version of the existing site would.

As someone who is having to do the exact same thing as my current job, exactly what @OttOPilot said. Some things are so old, so outdated, so poorly written, it is faster and easier just to say "fuck it" and start over (no offense to the original creators of the website lol).

I've spent 30 minutes trying to decipher what someone wrote 2 decades before me only to realize what it does and that I could have just written it myself in about 30 seconds.

Plus not all tech can be simply "upgraded"/"updated". Some stuff is just old and deprecated and is no longer used/supported. Like how we don't use punch cards to program anymore lol
