Jefferson warranted some suspicion from the very start, but the reveal still entirely shocked me, I was pulled into that sense of hope about Jefferson too, like a naive lil Max.
I find it funny how Meg was upset that there was an "unnecessary" shower scene in Life is Strange but she is the most excited about the "super hot lesbian sex game", but then again who wouldn't be excited about that game.
"unnecessary shower scene"
I didn't know you could arrange those words that way... Seems wrong somehow...
Meg used to stay in LA right? she never met people from NorCal? That's hella lame #DidIUSeItRight?
I'm with Greg, Warren just felt like a total creep so I left him behind
I like how your guys hatred for Victoria ultimately saved her from the brutal death at the hands of the teacher.
I'm with Ryan I didn't break down and cry, but my eyes did water a little when I saw the sacrifice Chole ending and I just sat and thought about the whole game for a little bit. This is one of few games that have given me that reaction after finishing it.
On another note, I really don't like them missing with the cylinder. They went down to 1 a month so that is only 12 a year instead of 52. It is suppose to be random so feeling it with one game you want to play defets the whole purpose of having the "Cylinder of Selection".
Maybe this just shows how out of touch I am, but as a 20 year old guy I had no real issues with any of the dialogue. It all felt pretty natural to me.
I do appreciate these reviews of games I love though. It's nice to see a more, I guess cynical approach. Because I'm enamoured of the game, and thought it was rad. And while the team said they enjoyed it, they were critical of things I hadn't even considered as negatives. It's a nice, fresh perspective.
Bae over bay every time! :D best game of 2015 (and ever for me), with so many hidden easter eggs and social criticisms/discussions. Hard shipper of the Pricefield, but open for some Chasefield as well, ah, bitchy blonde is mah jam :D!
Here's why I think the ending of LiS didn't make all previous choices obsolete, but the ending of ME did: In ME, all your choices are made with the impression that they are vital to the future (like the impact of saving the Krogan or Rachni on sequels), whereas the choices made in LiS are made (at least this was the case for my experience) more for the moment (like I want to make the choices that would save Kate right now). This way the choices in ME are much more practically focused, making the choices in regards to the ending (which is to be expected to fit in a practical way) much less meaningful than the choices in LiS (where regardless of the ending, you already had your meaningful impact the moment you made your choices throughout the game).
But that's just how I experienced both games :)
[SPOILERS]
I mean, I had no problem with the ending of ME, but I don't want to debate that, because I sort of agree with you on your other point. You can make all these choices and then, at the end of the game, picking one choice renders all of them completely obsolete, as they never happened in the first place. The other choice renders them relatively obsolete as anyone they applied to (besides Max and Chloe) isn't around to judge them.
While I'm in my spoiler post (sorry to hijack your comment), I want to suggest that Gus is wrong when he says the Save Arcadia ending is obviously canon, because they 'put more effort into it'. It's a good point, but I'd like to counter it. The whole game focuses around the power of nature. It's hinted at through the conversations with the science teacher, and the motif of the deer, and a bunch of other stuff I honestly don't recall right now. But Max's power comes from this same force. Why would 'nature' gift someone with this immense power, only for her to use it to change absolutely nothing? It would be fairly small-minded and selfish (of Max, not the player) to think she received the gift merely for the sake of a journey of self-discovery and becoming a better person, partially due to the burden of having to kill your best(girll)friend. Instead, I believe it makes sense that the hurricane is 'meant' to happen. The whole game is full of little hints of Arcadia Bay going to shit recently. It's controlled by the sinister Prescott's, trade has slowed down, the fish aren't biting, and so on. The hurricane is nature wiping the slate clean, and is really only using Max (probably couldn't give a shit about her personal journey).
Anyway, sorry to rant, I just wanted to add a different perspective.
Different perspectives are of course always welcome, and I don't think you're hijacking anything.
I do, however, don't think the game revolved around the power of nature. After all, nature cannot control time, which is something supernatural (as opposed to natural). Whatever this force is, it has the power to oppose the laws of nature (because it creates phenomena that normally aren't possible), so I don't think the point of the story was to emphasize the power of nature itself. How or why Max got her powers are questions I don't think anybody can answer. Since the game never really went into these questions, I would assume it's simply a 'setting' for the story; something that just is in order to create the plot. Just like there is no reason why Max (your relatively average person) was given these powers, I don't think Arcadia Bay was targeted because things went to shit. After all, try to name 1 city that doesn't have an asshole with status or a 'misunderstood' washed up guy who is avoided by people.
One of the best stories I have ever played in a game and my favourite game of 2015. Ending had me in tears and the themes and ideas that it talked about hit me right at home in the feels. Understand its not for everyone but it just got me. Was so excited to hear what these guys had to say about it
I was SUPER upset with the ending. At the end of the day, I didn't feel like my choices made any difference where the game gave me the impression that it was supposed to matter.
Contrast - Bioshock Infinite. It never told me the choices I was presented with mattered, it showed me fairly early that the choices aren't actually consequential (coin flip board, anyone?), and then it told me why it didn't matter. It didn't just say "nah, it makes no difference," it explained to me how and why it had to end the way it did.
glad to see I'm not the only one who was thinking fuck the best town lesbian love ftw(and yes I did end up kissing both warren and Chloe
