Join your hosts Kerry Shawcross and Erin Winn, alongside our guests Sam Mitchell and Joshua Ornelas as they chat about the toxicity in games, the wild world of social media, and not the election, because we prerecorded this one before Nov 3rd.
To be fair, this is not a just Riot problem, it's an online and immaturity problem. As an example, Heroes of the Storm, a MOBA game which is a dead game and as a result the players who are playing are those who are older HotS players has much less toxicity, we do have it, but way less because the players are much more mature. Riot games constantly have new and young players who are, well, are not even around their mid twenties but are in puberty. We just need to be patient, if you lose you lose, if you get trolled you just report because being toxic hurts you mentally as well, not just the other person. Srry for the long comment.
I agree with you guys with Riot. I love Riot's games, more so the League universe. They've put so many man hours into making it into a really great (yet shitty for some) world you want to live in. I love the lore but yeah, the online community sucks. And they allow people like Tyler1 to stick around who was one of the most toxic people and got popular because of it and they promote him now and IMO it really sucks. Even if the cleaned up his act, doesn't delete his past as being one of the worst people in the world for competitive gaming.
Riot is trying to clean up League. It's super slow but I am enjoying what they are doing little by little. League's Honors mean a bit more though it's just a rank still, then what they meant before. I do have games where I get salty, but I imagine almost everyone does. I never do slurs, never throw names around. I don't buy tears and run down mid. I just have bad games from time to time and get dragged into pointing fingers with others and I know that isn't a good thing to happen. But I have been positive enough to get Rank 5 in Honors meaning I'm on the top in attitude in game. So I have more goods then bads and I'm getting rewards for it which is nice.
There is an RPG coming out next year, The Ruined King, then a Diablo Like game that we have very little news on other then like...2 seconds of alpha gameplay. So they are doing some solo player stuff which IMO is great. Both games I'm betting are lore heavy so I am excited to see them.
