Gavin and Jon are right about the toaster and here's why; with 'their frontview' you can immediately see how toasted the bread is when they pop, you can't see that with it turned the way Gus/Barb use theirs.

the bread would just expand in the direction that it can. the bread in your oven doesn't rise up because its against gravity, it rises because thats the direction it can expand out of the pan.
