Gonna laugh my ass off when cryptocurrency crashes and all these miner got dozens of graphic cards that are not longer worth the thousands of dollars that they paid for them.
And then the second-hand market will flood with cheap graphics cards... so hopefully gamers will get it back in the end... though I suppose the GPU manufacturers might buy them back if they get too cheap and undercut their own new products enough...
If the cost of more expensive video cards, means gaming companies focus less on graphics then that'll be the greatest to ever happen to the gaming industry. Graphics are minimal compared to GAME MECHANICS or An ENGAGING STORY. Still sucks though, I just started building a pc last week.
I bought an ASUS 1070 for $380 and its worth twice that now lmao
Luckily for me I purchased my two 1070s back in November they were still $460 at the time. That price hike is insane, hell ram is getting expensive as well 200 bucks for two 8gig sticks? Lunacy I say. I was planning on upgrading my Mobo but with the price of ram on top of a new cpu and heatsink, that's going to have to wait.
I luckily got my 1080 a few years back, before the huge markups. It did die a few weeks ago; however thankfully it was under Warranty from the manufacturer, and they sent me a replacement for free.
