Is Stadia REALLY That Bad?

I'm a pretty causal player, Stadia just never appealed to me because even at it's highest and most efficient point it's more of a novelty. Accessing games instantly via your browser is a cool feature but waiting a few minutes to download a game was never a sever issue (for me anyway). I think Google is gonna end up abandoning Stadia, they're either trying to make it over the big holiday rush for one final squeeze. I would be very surprised if it made it into March of 2021.

I feel like Alanah is correct Stadia, in that a purely streaming game model (though not necessarily Stadia) is going to exist and take a serious share of the market. However, I agree with KDin in that I do not feel like we will see that in the near future. Perhaps in that ten year time frame? But that seems overly optimistic. Unless a huge internet service provider shake up occurs in the US. I am biased though, as I am in a situation where I currently live in one of the most rural parts of the US, in the most sparsely populated state. The location I live in didn't even have cell reception until 2015. My only internet options are cell data and satalite. Both with data caps that are notoriously bad. Just to download a new game requires the use of vpns and third party apps to spoof networks or I'll use between 3-6 MONTHS of data caps. For a single game. Even hard copy is a headache for me nowadays with day 1 patches and dlc that are as big as the game. I am obviously not their target market, and will fall by the wayside (unless said ISP shake up occurs) which makes this nothing more than am interesting side note, if I'm being honest.

I don't want Stadia to fail, but I don't feel the need to play a game when I am away from my house, be that at work or on the train so I don't think I'll ever go to stadia. I agree with Alanah in that my concern is them adding adverts in before you can play or before a cutscene. the other thing that is overlooked is games like Assassins Creed require updates on regular basis, so at some point your session would need to log out/return to the main menu, then go back in; or in some cases the game will restart your session so you can't always just go straight to where you left off.

I agree with Alanah on her no way could stadia be used in Australia unless you have actual good internet. My highest speeds I've gotten are 40down 15up. and that's at a cost as well. unless they do something about that, I think most of Australia won't be able to use a stadia unless they take out a second mortgage on their house, or more realistically move somewhere where rent is much cheaper to pay for those internet upgrades.

Wouldn’t say the stadia is dead but it definitely lost its legs, broke an arm, and went deaf in its left ear...but it’s still hangin in there.

I think the fundamental issue with streaming games is to stop looking at internet as a product. all of the things that are negatives against stadia would sound dumb if you replaced internet with power.

I was honestly going to pick up Stadia just for the novelty of it, but then I realized I live in the middle of Kansas, have shit internet, and it would have just been a disaster.

Just a small remark on Alanah saying that Playstation isn't where Sony biggest profit comes from, where it absolutely is. Games and Network (AKA Playstation) is Sony biggest profit maker, making 20% of profits, while in second place is Financial Services at 11.56% (2018). I live in a statistical metro area that just BARELY cracks the top 100 in the US. Are internet data caps really a thing for non-cellular connections?

Google's gonna drop it, and it will hopefully serve as a cautionary tale about games as a service. When a gaming service dies, they take all "your" games with them. That's what I'd like this to result in, but it's more likely just going to become as useless and forgotten as the N-Gage.
