Right. So Microsoft exclusive shops are probably not going to have so many issues (except time and money) with developing for three or four different consoles; the two Next Gen ones as well as the Last Gen mainstream and "extra-powerful" ones... but think about that from the perspective of a dev shop that is considering releasing on either XBox or Playstation... compile, build, test and bug fix for four consoles or for two (or even one since Sony looks much more like dropping the PS4 once the PS5 has a decent beachhead in the market)... that is not even a question; devs currently sitting on the fence about Song or Microsoft will go Sony. Now consider the position of bigger devs who just (normally) support everything... This generation they have been reluctant to release more than four versions; PC, PS4, XBox mainstream and, maybe, Switch (forget Apple or any of the different hardware versions of all three consoles!) Next generation Microsoft is asking them (and might be being more forceful than that in contracts, funding and deals) to DOUBLE that to PC, PS4 and at least two, if not _Three_ or even FOUR(!?!) XBox systems, and maybe Switch (though less likely unless that more powerful Switch comes out since Next Gen games are going to have a terrible time running on the already less powerful Switch.) That is just crazy, I hope - for XBox's bottom line - that Microsoft aren't playing hardball about devs having to make versions of their game for more than one or two XBoxes (even two might be a stretch for anything but the largest devs) because otherwise, outside of Microsoft exclusive shops there is going to be nearly no serious developers building for the huge range of XBox hardware... they have enough of that crap with PC builds (which most of them are woeful at doing well or fixing as it is already, and on console broken builds just don't fly or even walk!!!)
TLDR; If Microsoft wants non-Microsoft studios to develop for XBox it better let devs pick how many of the XBox consoles they are going to target with their builds (though, ironically, this means that XBox's true Next Generation console is the Series S (half) step up because it will have a larger market share than the X and therefore will be the default compile target which also means that the S will have a harder time doing well which means that the target with the largest market share might even be the mainstream XBox from THIS generation!!! :O - Bye Bye XBox...
