Hey, as much as we all love to joke about the dreadful live-action Mario movie, at least Bob Hoskins actually bothered to give Mario an accent. Even if he only really learnt about the Mario franchise after actually signing up for the film.
Also, I understand that maybe the video game voice might work better in short snippets in a video game but wouldn’t work so well for an entire movie, but couldn’t they have at least done something like impersonate the Captain Lou Albano voice? I mean sure, I wasn’t a major fan of the voice myself, but it was still an iconic one and one that the older fans are going to fondly remember. But I guess the film-makers think that millennial and Gen-Z internet users like us are just too “dumb” to relate to the voice.
All I’m saying is that it seems that Hollywood has a stupid opinion that people don’t like “silly” voices in movies and just go out of their way to hire people solely for their star power so they can provide the most generic “normal” voice ever, and being a huge fan of voice acting myself, it really upsets me.
On the bright side, the French and Italian dub voices actually sound really good and convincing. The Italian one in particular sounds natural, but actually feels like the voice actor put in effort on that one.
I’m also not that fond of Mario’s model in the film. Maybe it’s just because I’m too used to the current video game model, but this one just didn’t grab me. On the other hand, most of the other characters look really good.
Um, wasn't the blizzard's excuse when Diablo 3 had the same issues (the ddos attacks) only for it to come out that no, they were never attacked, they just didn't rent any additional servers for the launch period as is industry norms?
I am so happy the Roundup is continuing. I miss Brian already, but I am happy to see Evan take over! Also, I really like your background and lighting Evan.
