Well, this looks like it's going to be good.
It's not just drunk people, it's basic first aid. The only time you don't do it is if you've got reason to believe there's spinal damage
It's slightly concerning that people don't know about the recovery position since knowing it might help save someone's life
I feel like there's so much worry about causing spinal damage that they don't bother to teach us. I know they just told my class basically "don't touch someone ever because they might have spinal injuries".
If I'm ever hit by Geoff while walking down the road one day, please don't let Gavin be my Doc
O so we just let you die then instead of doing a legitimate first responder action that could end up saving your life.
@Gohankuten if you've been hit by a car the recovery position is more likely to paralyze you than save your life.
I remember shouting at my laptop when Gavin talked about the recovery position because IT'S A THING!!
However, this is actually taught to people in most of Europe. I was taught to do this is there's been a car accident.
It is taught to everyone in the world besides the US. Because americans will get sued if they move the guy over and it turns out he has a neck or spine injury. "YOU MADE IT WORSE BY MOVING HIM TO A MORE COMFORTABLE POSITION THAT MADE IT EASIER TO BREATHE YOU MONSTER!"
People have been sued for giving people CPR and failing to revive the guy because "Since you were doing CPR, no one else tried it, and maybe there was a more competent person in the room. You technically killed him. Give us a million dollars"
And people downvoted Consumerism even though he's completely fucking right... I fucking hate the plebs on this site. SJW trash...
As a response to Consumerism, I think it would be better to be sued for "possibly the reason why this hurts" than not helping someone when you could have saved their life. Education is still education, they should at least be taught it and then they can make the decision to act or not. Just another case of "cultural differences" though.
RSav i think their was an episode of the podcast where gavin talked about Americans being sued for giving first aid and he said if he was sued for it he would just say 'no im not having it' the image of Gavin in court just saying no to being sued makes me laugh. but seriously though wtf is wrong with people.
I wasn't even surprised by the first half of this video because it's such a Gus response to not want to see the guy who is delivering his groceries to his front door. If everyone did this delivery service, Gus would never have to see or talk to anyone ever again.
Another situation where gavin is 100% right... i took a couple first responder classes aswell as physical therapy... the reason you do that is so u can tilt them towards the ground and they wont fall and hit their face... it drains all fluids out of their system and wont let them drown on any of it aswell as clear the airway as Burnie stated
However you should never use it when someone may have a crush injury, or spinal damage, as it may cause death or paralysis. So he's right that it's a thing, but not about when to use it.
Please people, the recovery position is taught in first aid for people who collapse or fit, do not use it for any accident where bones may be broken or internal injuries may have occurred.
Yet again they shit on Gavin for something he's right about.
but that's why it's funny
I'm in The Army and I swear Gavin is partially right on this. They teach us the recovery position in CLS.
