The Defenders was good, but I really think Iron Fist hurt it. Defenders centered greatly on him early on. People have been excited about this team up since Daredevil aired, but with all of the IF issues it was hard to recover. One of the best parts of the Defenders was how much the other heroes didn't like Danny - 'twas the best.
I participated in a live tweet for the whole series and so many folks talked about how they either soldiered through IF or lost interest and weren't originally planning on watching the Defenders because they were so disappointed. I personally didn't make it through IF, but loved all the other ones - well Daredevil season 2, outside of the Punisher storyline was pretty lame. Elodie Yung is playing the hell out of Elektra, but the story they gave her was lackluster.
I hope the numbers for the Defenders pick up, because the team was great together... obviously excluding Bland Fist - the actor brings nothing to Danny Rand, who is a character I like.
Now, Inhumans on the other hand... Baybay - let it burn. I love the Inhumans and I don't know what this trash is they're trying to give us, but they can go ahead and recycle it now. The look is wrong, there is nothing there that draws me in outside of Lockjaw - puppy! It's an incredible story to tell, but ABC/ Marvel shot themselves in the foot when they dedicated so much of Agents of Shield to telling the story. It should have been a movie; that should have been the "brand" that brought our favorite small screen team to the big screen and vice versa, but no. They insisted on bringing it to TV and there was NO WAY in the sunny side of Tartarus they were going to get Medusa's hair right on a TV budget. And that's just one of the many issues. Good riddance.
Anyway... if their giving Bland Fist a season 2 with its lackluster performance, they will surely green light Defenders season 2. I think the Frank Castle hype will help that along too, which OMG total fangasms from that trailer! I'm so excited to see Punisher.
Yeah, totally agree with what you're saying. The first season of IF was rough as hell... My problem with Defenders was that they didn't give enough character development (which was also made difficult by the time (a week) the storyline ran on. It's not just that the actor does nothing for the character of IF, but that the character isn't showing any signs of personal development, improved skills during both the IF and Defenders season (it's like he has to remember how go iron fist every goddamn episode..).
Inhumans should indeed have been a movie (with a movie budget). Although I understand the timing of the season, to bridge the time until the new season of AoS, it should have been right after the primary Inhuman storyline of AoS (before the LMD/Aida storyline), that way they could have used the viewership/hype from AoS better. Am really hyped for the new AoS season though; S.W.O.R.D.!!!!!
@LennartdeVries you get it! This huge gap of time has passed on AoS and Inhumans are just bleh at this point.
I saw a headline this weekend that Finn Jones is starting his martial arts training for IF season 2. All I could think was "it's a couple of shows too late for that!" It's like how they messed up Arrow. The first two seasons were good. Granted I didn't like what they did with Laurel, at all; but the "hero" was growing and developing. And then it just stopped and the show became a train wreck. TBH after S3, episode 1, I wasn't invested much. But it just kept getting worse, they messed up Diggle, Felicity, and Amanda Waller and it just... UGH!
Back to the Defenders though, it was good outside of Danny to me. And that bothers me so much, because the IF character could have been so much better. This guy makes it hard to roll with though. The actor doesn't seem to have the range to even nail the sarcastic jokes Danny is known for. UGH. Oh well. I need to watch the rest of the last season of AoS so I can be ready for the new season.
Yeah, "Inhumans". Why would someone want to go to a theater to watch a show that they can see later? I mean really, that's kind of ballsy of a company to think that people would want to do that. They would have to really believe the community would get behind something like that. Because come on, paying to watch the premiere of a show in a theater... that will be shown on a website 2 days later... wait, what show was I talking about?
I'm definitely with the people who wants to watch Defenders but also want to watch all the other series first. But... yeah, Iron Fist sucks. I stopped watching after episode 2
I'll take the latter explanation. For me, Iron Fist being so rough is what turned me away from Defenders. I'll get around to it, but I just don't have faith that it's going to be good enough to invest the time into it when there are other things I could be watching... I'll still keep up with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and the Punisher (looks awesome, btw), but anything centered around Iron Fist's story arc is going to a lukewarm response at best from me.
I enjoyed the Defenders but I had really low expectations coming into it on account of Iron Fist which I think made it more enjoyable. I really want to watch more JJ and hope for more DD without the Hand mystic crap that brought it down.
I'm surprised that not many people watched the Defenders. I really liked it, considering I stopped watching DD season 2 half way through because it thought it was ehh
Whose on the box?
