Rotten Tomatoes RUINING Movies?

This is just classic scapegoating... the fact that Hollywood films do so well, on average, on Rotten Tomatoes is always surprising to me but my collection is largely composed of non-Hollywood films; all those small or arty or otherwise less Hollywood blockbuster like films that tell realistic stories, don't treat the viewer like an infant and/or engage in interesting and well thought out cinematography that remembers there's a human viewer on the other side of the screen (unlike those directors/editors who love sickening shaky-cam, endless blinding lens-flares, constant action-shredding jump-cuts, deafening irrelevant sound-tracks or whatever else is the latest fad to abuse the viewer with).

That's not to say other cinema doesn't have it's own traits: Chinese films - (spoiler) everyone dies, Korean - weird people in comedy stories, French - depressing, German - (close to) documentaries (often violent), Dutch - a mix of French and German..., Spanish - disturbing, Italian - slice of (crazy people's) lives (so sometimes comedic but often tragic), British - half Hollywood, other half realistic tales of the underdog unrealistically making good (sometimes based on true stories where the impossible did actually happen) - except Terry Gilliam who should be a Korean film maker! Japanese - violence, death and honour (in films with male leads) and cuteness, love and romance (in films with female leads), Indian - Bollywood (need I say more?)

On the other hand, maybe the defining factor is less place than it is expectations of the company making the film in how much money they want to make from a film... "almost a billion" would have almost every film maker happy... it's as bad as Trump's "small loan of a million dollars". Success should be measured by long-term impact ("BladeRunner"), not short-term blowing away ever-more ridiculous expectations of making money ("Batman Vs Superman").

It was awesome to see Adam on here. I love The Know team, but I will admit that I miss the Funhaus gang getting in on it. I appreciate their analysis on the real world. That's another reason why I love Dude Soup as well.

When an art medium becomes a business, it will inevitably get reduced assortments of numbers. Big movies are the biggest targets. They should know what they're getting into. Deal with it.
