For someone who has been debating on seeing the movie when it first comes out or waiting to watch it on demand (like myself), this was really useful and insightful! And for someone who has yet to read the book and was wondering if that would hinder the experience (also me), this was helpful, as well.
After seeing this I'm definitely going to hold off on reading the book until after I've seen the movie.
Half way through I realized that I am one of those book purist, and that was the reason I have been subdued in my excitement for this movie, nearly every trailer had me concerned. But I must say that I am very appreciative of this little sit-down that you guys did. Mainly because you have changed my perspective on what this movie was going to deliver which honestly, comes from how I respect and value all of your opinions but also from that the words you chose to use, oddly enough majority from Jon who had an excellent term ( 8:15 ) that ties into what i call "transference of medium" ( comic -/ movie -/ VG -/ movie. Even applies to Book - Audible ) ( If this is how you see movies Jon, I regret I didnt watch more of your Podcast )
Thank you guys for taking time to use a "freebie" you got to inform and elicit excitement, from what was said here and on the RT Podcast I now have a desire to go opening night,
maybe even the Salt Lake City FanX (comic-con) screening.
Was hopeful when Burnie said he liked the movie better than the book, because I wasn't overly impressed with the book.
This is what I wish most film reviews were like... instead I have to go with Honest Trailers who (once you learn their style) are pretty good for reviewing movies - at least for my tastes :)
I can't wait to see it! I've read the book and listened to the audio tape! I've been looking forward to this movie for a very long time! I really wish I could see it in theater!!!
This was incredibly helpful for me, book to movie adaptations have always disappointed me because I was hoping for that direct translation. Knowing that I need to separate the two in my mind is great to know beforehand.
Do you think the film would still be enjoyable to someone who didn't enjoy the book? Or do you think that, even if the adaptation is different, it's still true to the spirit of the original?
tHANK YOU SO very MCH !
aSHLeY Thank yoh for Ca$ting t#i$!
(scribe apologies due to excitement) ARE YOU SHITTING ME WITH THE RUBY ROSE CAMEO!!?
Oh damn,.. the best of both worlds. Oh,.. DAMN!
True Fanerds of this story will absolve publication cannon changed for a viceral visual experience.
So excited and wearing my Atari gear for opening night.
I am incredibly curious and excited for the part in the middle of the movie that they keep referencing. They mentioned that it's not in the book and it's the best part of the movie. I was a huge fan of the book and am very excited for the movie.
I'm thinking that I'm going to like the movie more than the book. Because to be honest, a lot of times in the book, there was a lot of fluff dedicated to just spouting and showing off the author's 80's and 90's pop culture references. There are pages upon pages that just list them as if I know every single one of them. And often times, it felt like there were more pop culture references than there were story. That being said, from what I've been able to figure out from your talk about it, I get a feeling that the characters of Wade and Halliday are going to be a lot more relatable and less "hopelessly geeky loser with a kind of creepy interest in one girl" that those two kind of shared.
Either way, I'm excited for it and I'm going to read the book again just to get caught up with it.
