There's an infamous river/water hole near where I grew up that teenagers would go cliff jumping at. It was in an abandoned mining area, near a shaft. There were signs all over saying it was dangerous, jumping is illegal, etc, and the cops checked it pretty regularly over the summer but there were still a few drownings over the years. The last time it happened a few young adults from out of town jumped into it and one of them just didn't pop back up. They dove down to find him but couldn't see anything. A fisherman found his body floating down river a few days later.
