@mewtwozero It's not just that Texas is big, it's also sparsely populated across a lot of it. Texas is roughly 2.5x the size of the UK, and it has less than half its total population. You can see by this population density map (below) that a train system could only service a small portion of the population unless you ramp up the costs dramatically to service low population centers;

And there are issues beyond that. Public transport in the US is a complex issue that requires a complex solution. Unfortunately, the government is not in the mood for complex discussions.
