I think Burnie's plan, for his new assistant, is to keep them behind the camera, so that the community doesn't fall in love with them, like with Ellie. That way, he can keep them and won't have to give another person their own show.
That's the biggest problem for RT, if someone is remotely interesting and they get put on camera, we fall in love with them and demand to see them more. I imaging it makes them getting on with work a bit harder

No matter what happens, Ellie has stolen our hearts with her quirkiness, kind heart, and cheerful demeanor. Ellie, you are an amazing woman, and will survive the apocalypse, even if Burnie does not. I look forward to hopefully seeing you in other productions!
