BioWare is apologizing for the issues and errors during Anthem's VIP Demo weekend, there's a new Dragon Ball game coming, Square Enix has a cryptic warning for Kingdom Hearts III streamers, and more.
I played the demo as much as I could(Origin says I played 8 hours) and while it had issues, I am even more hyped for the game. The infinite loading screens didn't happen for me(but did for some friends), I had trouble logging in at first but got in within 4 hours of the demo launching(never had issues after that), and the game would freeze if I alt+tabbed out. Other issues were getting kicked from the game and minor frame drops(went from 50FPS to 20FPS for maybe 5 seconds max). For the classes, I played the Ranger(forced to) and Storm to which I thought they were a bit unbalanced but only a bit. The Ranger has abilities meant to support gunplay while the Storm is meant to be ability heavy. The Storms starting Lightning bolt could one shot the weakest enemies while the Ranger's grenade would do maybe 75% HP. In terms of ultimates, they were about equal. If the Storm's Ultimate was a 10/10, the Ranger's ultimate was a 9/10.
Overall, it was a solid demo on a 2 month old build of the game and I expect that they'll have at least 70% of the issues worked out. They're working hard and I can appreciate that(also wouldn't mind if they pushed it back a bit to hammer out all the issues).
so the demo of an unfinished game showed us that they still need to work on it. Don't see why people are getting all up in arms about it. I figured there would be bugs.
@cybrkinetic I tried it myself. Its hard to pinpoint what was wrong unless you tried it yourself honestly. The gameplay was great, though I wish I had more time to refine the controls. I was only able to play it for about an hour and a half before the demo ended, however in that time I encountered the infinite loading screen bug three times (aka, every time that I transitioned from the single player area to the expeditions). The menus were really hard to navigate sometimes and other times, stuff like friends on the list just didnt appear unless you refreshed it two or three times. There were just so many small issues as well as some large ones that it's extremely hard to believe they will be ready for release in less than a month.
Sounds pretty cut and dry to me, don't stream the game to provide music for people. If you're going to stream it, play it. They probably won't touch you for playing the game with music on, but they'll have an issue with you if all you're doing is standing still so you can play music for other people. If someone doesn't understands that, then they shouldn't be streaming.
@OniZonda note, there's a chance they also want people to be talking and interacting with their viewers to ensure that people are being personality streamers instead of just streaming the game so everyone can see it without having to put the money down. The current state of legality is a little sketchy when it comes to that particular part of streaming.
@OniZonda I'm fairly certain I've seen a Know video explaining that, no the legality of streaming is not sketchy at all. Any streaming of a game is technically a copyright violation and they could DMCA you for it but, for the most part, game companies will let it slide because it's 1) free advertising, 2) has been shown to help sales and 3) DMCA'ing streamers would cause much ill will among their customer base. That said, some companies will put restrictions on streaming like how Atlus didn't want anyone streaming Persona 5 beyond a certain point in the game.
I would like to add the anthem 'VIP' demo wasn't as VIP as people thought I know of several people who didn't preorder or got a code and still able to download and play the demo
What people never bothered looking up (I guess) was that the demo of Anthem was a 6 week old build. Why was it this old? Because when you have to put it through a cert process (mainly for Sony and MicroS) it takes a bit before it's fully validated and then uploaded for the mass to download. If they did it with a build closer to release we wouldn't have had the demo till near launch or post.
All that being said, I thought the game was great. Gave me a great nostalgic feel of the old Mass Effect 2 Multiplayer days while adding something familiar but new to the table. If this is how it is on launch I can understand the complaints but for what it was and for when it worked? It was a fun time and I'm excited for how deep the story is.
