Well, sorta "gen 1" in the fact that it would be from FireRed/LeafGreen which literally is gen 1 since Red/Blue/Yellow and Gold/Silver/Crystal can't communicate with Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. But yea, it's a very painstaking process. I've been meaning to try it out to see how long it would take from start to finish, but it takes a really, really, *really* long time to do.
@OniZonda Actually, you absolutely 100% can bring your original Gen 1 and 2 Pokemon into the newer generations. It involves additional hardware, software, and in some cases mods...but there are a ton of ways to do it. Just a painful process, and one Nintendo never intended anyone to use.
@Kdin ah ok, I was thinking of original hardware with no mods and not really considering the new remakes or indirect importing. I vaguely recall something about being able to do some things with stadium and pokemon bank so maybe there was a way to get around that GB/GBC to GBA barrier but oh my god that would take so long. But yea, my statement was mostly for direct transfer of gens 1+2 to 3. I know it's possible to import from GBA to DS and then do a complicated roundabout method of going from one gen to another. The trouble with it was that you also needed to see every poke for one entire gen before it opened up, and another was after the elite four so not as bad but still a while away. They've been making it easier as they've progressed and now it's fairly simple with the bank (as far as I can tell. I haven't used it yet cause I'm just now getting back into it). I was behind on a lot since gen 3 so I'm working my way through it, starting with Alpha Sapphire
