You can take my LINUX
when you pry it from my cold dead hands
Do you want more FPS but at the cost of having Windows controlling how you play your game and whether or not you can mod it?
The day that I can't have a Bethesda game without XXX mods is a sad day indeed.
Microsoft has said in the past that while it is possible to mod UWP games, it it very difficult to change the executable and as the files are essentially just apps, there is no real way to properly gain access to both the .ini files and the core code.
It makes it difficult for me to go to UWP as Microsoft has total dominance over that ecosystem. With the Win32 architecture it might be okay but I am not holding my breath.
Or just use Windows 7... I really wanted to like Windows 10, and I did like a lot of their UI changes (and the linux subsystem), but when it came to gaming it was unusable. I had switched back to Windows after years of running linux so that I could play Overwatch, but I'd get so much frame stuttering that playing it was more luck than skill (though I'm also not good). Finally decided to fall back to Windows 7, framerate issues are gone. Consistent 70fps at 4k.
Gamers were some of the first to call out Microsoft when they started screwing over DR-DOS... so Microsoft has been screwing over competitors in the gaming field for decades!
i feel like this will be one of those things that everyone will tell you to turn off to fix bugs. "hey, blah blah game is doing (insert buggy behavior)." "ok, make sure game mode is turned off" "oh, thanks bro, that fixed it!"
They need to push getting the xbox games we buy available to us on pc as well first before doing to much of this.
