It's always been a matter of time before Youtube went down the drain - monopolies can't help but do it because they've no incentive to stay good, nevermind get better. But when a behemoth dies there are always dozens of scavengers ready to pick at the carcass and get big quick... though there are already a number of larger bidders out there already which is why it is so much more likely Youtube is gonna carp it. Would like to say I didn't see it coming but it's been evident for more than a decade - and history (Altavista, AOL, Yahoo, MySpace) shows that the internet is neither kind nor fussed about ditching the old for the new.
Yes but YouTube and more so Google have stayed above that curve because in till now they listened to there users and creators (or at leased it seemed like it) and now they appear to have abandoned that.
I suspect that the interests of the creators and users and those of Google and Youtube were simply better aligned rather than them listening... certainly their inability to communicate would suggest as much since speaking is normally something that is easier than listening...
A lot of ads run on vids that offend somebody somewhere.
So if there are folks that are offended by vids with God, Guns, or Gays,
then those vids lose advertising.
So, if you want to keep your revenue, stop making God, Gun, Gay, or anything else that might offends somebody, somewhere.
Is it wrong for a private company to 'censor' vids on ITS PLATFORM
with Guns or Gays or any other stuff that people complain about? How is Google acting like Starbucks any more or less wrong? Google and Starbucks are private comapnies that just just deny folks rights to Gay Gun Or God on their non-government business.
Or is the problem that too many folks flag complaints over gun, gay, or god vids.
And too many sponsors are being blamed
for "offesive" gay, gun, and god vid content that their ad runs on
I am offended by monopolies, oligarchies and mega-businesses generally... which means almost all of the advertisers... I demand Google censor of the content from these companies from Youtube immediately! :D :D :D
Go where the money is. Wouldn't be surprise if content creators live the platform in droves.
Don't worry Ashley RT T-shirts are all I wear.
I am kind of leaning toward Hanlon's Razor on this, (Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity). Youtube probably was trying to focus on the horrible racist/terrorist channels, but is using a Warhammer to do so.
Meh, youtube's just trying to figure things out, and every little change makes enormous ripples. Things will change again soon enough.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did something like different categories of ads, where some are for family friendly content, and others are for the more "objectionable" content. If anything, I think it's odd that ads have been a simple on/off switch for this long.
