Next Season
Everyone obviously wants to aim for the success of the major names, however they can never get there since it's already late in the game to replicate the path of a different company, especially when you can't compare the services directly. Plus demand for games isn't as high as you'd expect since the majority of people out there already have what they want or have already played what they wanted and moved on. The best example of this is PS Now. It's seen some success and is a similar concept (albeit streaming the game as opposed to downloading) but it's not a widely demanded service. There's also the fact that it's only PS3 titles, but that's sort of a moot point. That aside, Microsoft would never reach 100mil subscribers because there aren't even that many consoles available for it to be on. Of the ~26mil consoles (as of Dec 2016), they'd be lucky to get 1/4 of those to even try out the Xbox Game Pass before the next "generation." My prediction (since I'm more realistic and not an asshole) is that they'll see upwards of 1,000,000 people try out their Game Pass within 2-3 years, but active subscribers will be closer to 50,000-100,000 over that same time frame. Neither of those figures should be ignored even though they sound like a weak figure, but at $10 a pop and 24-36 times, it adds up. It won't hurt them, but it's not going to be a mainstay.
