Star Trek fan Directors- What copyrights are we infringing on?
Paramount lawyers- Ctrl+A the entire movie and send. That will be $10,000.
The suit is not over money. Please read this recent post on Axanar's blog: MYTHBUSTERS: Debunking Three Misconceptions About Axanar Productions
@sweetnhappy that was a good read not exactly what I was saying but good. I'm just saying the lawyers probably charged someone a lot of money for something that probably wasn't that hard for them. Also Paramount may not be looking for money, because they're a huge studio and Axanar isn't exactly flush with cash, I wouldn't be supprised if Paramount hit them with the legal cost.
Star Trek Axanar is not the first crowd funded Star Trek fan film nor will it be the last (hopefully). What really sets this one apart from others is the scale and quality. If CBS/Paramount really want to enforce their copyright then why haven't any other fan films ever been caught in their crosshairs?
Also, as stated by commenters on Axanar's web site, fan films are a great way to advertise and promote the Star Trek brand. And it doesn't cost CBS/Paramount a dime.
