When a company announces that they plan to tone down sexuality or violence or the like in their product, my question is always: "Did the requests that you do so come from your consumer base, or outside interest groups run by self-righteous ideologues who will never pay for your products anyways?" If it's the first one, fair enough. If it's the second one? Fuck them, they can't boycott something they were never gonna buy anyways.

I'm actually excited about the Golden Compass mini series. The books are very good. I really enjoyed the story as a kid. Hope it delivers, unlike the movie.

Right as Brian was reading the quote from Ubisoft the video froze, I think that explains why we shouldn't look at streaming as the next way to play video games. Who wants to be halfway through an intense battle for the game to freeze itself for 30 seconds.

Tbh the controversy surrounding the Golden Compass movie is what killed it, not the movie itself. The movie was fine; not amazing but it was good. The problem was that at the time that the GC movie came out, there were many prominent religious groups going around banning books about magic (like Harry Potter) and witches/wizards and anything that looked a bit hinky religion-wise. Pullman, a professed atheist, ticked all of those boxes. You have souls expressed as animals, witches who use magic and a very God-like Authority figure that the characters are at odds with. It was the perfect book for those kind of groups to get riled up about and it definitely effected Golden Compass's box numbers and the production of the sequels.
