Who wants to take bets on how long it'll take ABP to abandon this idea and/or go under?
2 weeks.
They won't. Adblock plus has always allowed some ads. I get a few picture ads on google from time to time. Adblock Plus aggressively blocks the worst and most intrusive ads. I never see any moving image or video ads, just static ones. However Adblock is allowing sites to pay them to get their "good ads" unblocked right away instead of waiting for the Adblock algorithm to kick in and unflag the ads. So basically if companies bothered to only allow good ads on their site, everything would be fine. Strangely enough the Know didn't get all their facts straight. Small wonder considering how biased they are against it. Never trust any report from anywhere just because someone said it once, do your own research.
sounds like ABP is hijacking the websites to me.
Off with their heads
Just checked out this video on YouTube and lo and behold the comments are a bunch of jerks saying that they'll need a new blocker to block the "annoying ads" so they can view their free content in peace. Honestly those those so called fans truly disappoint me.
I try and use a ad blocker that only disables malware prone ads but i don't mind waiting for a 5 second ad. or supporting custom ads such as rooster teeth
You have a fair point as far as people hurting the amount of money a content provider earns but this goes beyond Youtube in most cases with sites that throw ads at you and prevent you from actually looking at the content that brought you there in the first place. Ad blocker actually lets you see the video without 3 pages opening, an ad covering the video you can not exit, and best when an ad plays before your video and freezes as soon as the ad ends so your video doesn't play and when you refresh the page you get to watch another ad that may or may not freeze again. Even Rooster Teeth was guilty of the freezing ads many years ago. I bought a Sponsorship simply cause I was sick of those Best part of Disneyland and Eddie's Taco's commercials never letting me watch a RVB episode.
I do and always will use every type of adblocker I can. The reason being that I'm a 25 year old male....have you any idea the amount of viruses and spyware you can end up getting from porn sites??
I do try making up for the fact though, I donate to the streamers I like, sign up for any sponsorship deals like RT's first membership and support any crowdfunding they are doing such as patreon.
But after having a laptop just get utterly corrupted before in the past I take no risks, so ad blocker plus firewalls and constant scans.
To be fair, I just stick to one site (good ole PornHub) and I always use incognito. It's not that I have anything to hide, I just hate porn showing up in my search bar.
Incognito also means I don't have AdBlock on. There's an option to, but let's be real: sometimes the ads are better than the porn.
@Cole2999 you don't want porn to start showing up in your search auto-fill when you're trying show someone a video, that's just akward for everyone
I use an adblocker because its been 3 PC's since I had any problems with malware, and I'd like to keep it that way. I know that the odds of encountering bad ads are tiny, but I've seen it happen enough that I take no chances. And even beyond that, using something to block certain elements on a page is a must. ESPN doesn't seem to care if I un-check autoplay videos, they keep coming. And have you ever tried to browse a Kinja site without an adblocker? That said, if/when I come across a creator that I actually like, I vastly prefer to buy some merch or a sub (hello, little yellow star) instead of tossing a fraction of a penny their way via page impression.
uBlock Origin. Sorry to some small parts of the internet, but really, fuck the rest of it.

i have ad blocker its called being a double gold member
Websites have their needs, and I have mine. One of my needs is being able to browse a website without a hundred flashing pieces of obnoxious nonsense screaming at me from every corner. This is why I have always, and will always use Adblock.
P.S. I'm a sponsor, but I don't pay for ad-free browsing, I pay for extra content. Paying for ad-free browsing is like paying not to have people spit in your face when you're taking a walk. I don't care how much hypothetical money they're making from spitting in my face, I just don't want to experience that, ever.
P.P.S. Incoming hordes of butthurt twelve year-olds with feverishly casuistic nonguments.
Trust me, most people on the planet do not like intrusive advertisement. Especially since most of it is nothing more than flashing pop culture and images at you and then telling you to buy their product. Hilariously the in video ad reads are the best advertisement I've seen. I have seen employees using the products in ad reads, that gets me to consider what they are pushing rather than "Wiggle Walk" playing during a god damn car commercial.
i wonder if they make more money via ads or via first/sponsorship, & merchandise? (I'm not including any of their awesome panels etc)
I imagine Sponsorships are worth more to them or they wouldn't be pushing them so hard and making so much exclusive content. We still get in video ads "Shout out to Blue Apron" but atleast our sponsorship cuts out the annoying ads that pull you away from the video. Besides I've bought more shit simply cause it was coming from the sultry voice of Gus instead of some paid actor in a scripted terrible ad.
well just use.. Adblock. i also i pay money to hear 3+(and prob growing) ad reads a video on here so..
