This makes me wonder if my DNA is fucked and I've just never known...
This is so cool! I don't usually watch The Know, but this really piqued my interest with its science and law side of the story. Cool video.
I don't understand why you would disclose the information to the school. It's not medically relevant, and clearly, in this case, caused confusion. The school weren't discriminating against the child but, erroneously, trying to safeguard him and the other CF sufferers. It's a case that highlights the need for more/better education on the matter.
Still, the school certainly aren't faultless, they should have checked that there was an actual risk of having the child at the school, not just taking the word of other parents, who are likely to be overcautious anyway.
sure, but the same could be claimed for not allowing black people into schools. They just want to protect their students, right? and as we all know, a school without black people is safer than one where black and whites are mixed. see the similarities?
No, those are different cases completely. One is making character judgement based on skin colour, the other is making a medical health judgement based on incorrect medical knowledge and information.
Definitely closer to designer babies. On Monday British scientists were granted permission to genetically modify human embryos by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.
Alex I'll take "Things Specifically Mentioned in the Video" for $500! 6:52
Reminds me of the descremination against people like me with autism.
I'm curious about why two kids with CF were already allowed at the school. Also the fact that teachers were given confidential information and then allowed to make a medical decision seems like a big issue here as well.
They were siblings. They would be together at home anyway, and as they were at the school first I suppose were given preferential treatment.
I find this to be completely retarded. As someone with CF(had a double lung transplant 5 years ago). I grew up with concerns about others being sick all the time. The fact that he didn't even have C.F. and still got kicked out(even if he was let back), is bullshit.
Why is it okay for parents who don't vaccinate their kids and have those kids allowed in school, yet someone with just a fucking marker for a disease not allowed? You can't help your genetics.
