The thing is with anonymity, social media like Facebook has very toxic/negative/angry comment sections on viral posts and groups, even using a personal profile that can show full name and location depending on their settings. So it may cut down toxicity a tiny bit if there was no anonymity, but it still doesn't stop a lot of people now.
There's toxicity in every group, honestly. It's an unfortunate side effect of the internet and letting anybody and everybody voice their opinions. It's perhaps more prevalent with gamers because the gaming community is so large and, despite what some people may wish, it's pretty diverse. It's a somewhat similar thing with, say, the anime/manga community.
I don't think anonymity has anything to do with it. People are just angry (and stupid). Take a look at all the kids on Twitter, for example, who do nothing but troll people and are full of hatred for everybody.
Some of it may be an age thing and people need to grow up, but it's also that it's not controlled properly. People aren't punished on Twitter for bullying/harassment nearly as much as they should be (then again, Twitter also allows Nazis, so lol). I used to be a lot angrier online when I was 15 or so, but I've since realised that there's no point in being angry, and also that there are real people typing those comments and that my words can affect them. I think that's another thing that a lot of people, especially younger ones, don't realise. Although that's not an excuse at all, and I know that a lot of adults do it as well because it's funny or whatever.
Glitch please!!!!!!!
They're going to learn Japanese? I'm intrigued... Though, not to be discouraging, but I kind of don't think it's going to get very far. It takes a lot of time, especially early on. And if you want to really get anywhere with it, it takes a lot of work, too. I'm sure they understand that, but I can't help feeling like they're really underestimating just how much.
それでもやはり、みんなが日本語でのゲームができるように頑張れ!
When it comes to Dishonored, I never try to go for the ghost achievement, but I do enjoy going for the clean hands, the game give's you enough options(specially Dishonored 2) to beat the game without killing anyone.
I'm honestly not sure what their problem with original sin 2 is. They say navigation around the map is like leading your character on a roap, and they don't like that. Technically you can do that, but why would you? Just click, that is it. Like torchlight, like diablo, just click on the screen once, and your character will automatically navigate to that spot. Outside of battle your character will evade all obstacles and take the best route to the spot you clicked on (in battle you have to be more careful, if you walk into lava its your own fault). Use the arrow keys or WASD or move the mouse cursor to the edge of the screen to navigate around the map and then click. Super easy navigation, and the pathing is actually damn good if you let the game decide the route. Other than that, its good to hear they are enjoying it. I thought Gus would have talked more about it since he is so into Xcom, the games are pretty similar in gameplay.
yeahi almost exclusively play with just the mouse just drag to that location and click(though it would be great if u could click on minimap)
It would be so cool if a game has that mechanic where if you are a murder machine sometimes enemies may recognize you and surrender and maybe you can spare them and they help if they value their life. I would definitely take a sec to think, do i just keep swinging or do i stop and let this guy live to feel better and get something from it. Maybe the more you spare the more chance they will not fight you because they know you will spare them, and they could even have an enemy that false surrenders and then attacks you when your guard is down. It would add a whole nother level to the game.
Tyranny kinda has that, NPCs will have different dialogue depending on your reputation and will react differently to what you say (aka if they know you are a murderer, threats will carry more weight, etc.)
You guys should do a Divinity Original Sin 2 playthrough with you 4 for The Know. I would love to see you guys play it. Also you guys can change the companions when you first talk to them.
I haven't quite been the "silver lining" kinda person, but I have been more about positive reinforcement and having fun than competitive and condescending. I've gathered some great friends and I've met some really cool people. Overall it's better to be a good person, it helps to be calm, but most of all it's about enjoying the game and the company you have while you're playing.
i really hope AH or someone does a Divinity original sins 2 let play.
With the community member loosing his job from 343 I will say that that individual is actually a really good level designer but on ForgeHub he has posted a lot of comments in the past against 343 (and just general toxicity posts). Many similar to that comment he made, however the forum on ForgeHub that the comments was taken from has now been removed do to the toxicity it was starting to draw to the site because of this incident.
Many knew that the community member was already in the gaming industry as a level designer and was aiming for a spot at 343, he has also been warned in the past that some of the stuff he says and his toxic attitude could one day come back to bite him. So while it is a shitty position for him to be in currently he didn't do anything at the time to prevent this from happening. This incident that took place has been causing waves in the halo community though.
On Anonymity
We've already begun to see people willfully relinquish their anonymity on platforms like Facebook, and at least from the shitposts that I see on pages, it has had little to no impact on their own "toxic" exhibitions. We've rapidly been ushered into a new age of narcissistic nihilism, and while you reap what you sew — at the end of the day, nobody seems to actually care and nothing really matters.
Unfortunately, social media reinforces this sort of behavior by obfuscating "the other side" of the spectrum. You carefully construct your own facade that quickly turns into an echo-chamber. You do this by only interacting with like-minded people who share your own convictions. When someone says something, or shares something that you don't agree with, you block them, you mute them, you hide it; But it doesn't go away.
You just create the illusion that it's gone away. So now, when these conflicting viewpoints do collide, they do so in the most polarizing way because these people have forgotten how to communicate with each other. They no longer speak the same language. All of their friends and family think you're a liberal cuck too, and instead of conditioning them to not communicate that way, they celebrate it. There's nobody left to hold you accountable, and when there is, you remove them.
This is the result of allowing people to curate their own society and encouraging them to "just ignore the haterz lol". This is how 45 was created.
Welcome to the social holocaust.
